Y'know, lately I've been liking Kisaragi Gunma's mangas less and less. They're still very hot, but many of the plots leave a bad aftertaste. They don't have any love. What's even worse, it's not even that there is only lust, which would be alright with me. It's that there is love involved, but it always goes wrong and the people involved console themselves by having lots and lots of illicit sex, not always with each other.
Take Mai Favorite, for example. It looked like it was building up to a confession between Mai and Shoutarou, with Mai becoming his lover and exclusive maid, but after the confession, the other maids barge in and are all like "well, that's great, but that doesn't make Shoutarou your exclusive lover too, it's his duty to have sex with all of us" and Shoutarou realising that as long as Mai is a maid and he's the master of the mansion, they'll never be able to be a couple. So what does he do? He decides to fuck as many maids as he can, while Mai is clearly disappointed. Well, either that or it turns out this was just a job for he anyway and she never really loved him.
That's the kind of plot I hate. It's not NTR, but it's almost as bad.
Good point about Mai Favorite. While I thought the art was pure gold and the plot was at least full of love and lust, the way Shoutarou acted was just retarded. It's a bit like he's just toying (maybe not intentionally) with all the girls in that mansion, especially Mai and Ayaka. Really, the guy has the attention span of a goldfish! The whole time he seems to be in love with Mai, but that doesn't stop him from having sex with all the other maids and saying cute things to them (the scene with Miki for instance). Did he just forgot about his feelings for Mai? And just as important: her feelings for him? Even when he and Mai finally 'get together' for real, he continues to have sex with the other maids, 'because it's his job'. Then Mai goes on a vacation, Shoutarou learns about Ayaka's true feelings and ends up fucking her for three days straight. Really, what the fuck?! The story then ends abruptly with Mai returning from her vacation and whining about the dirty smell in her bedroom (where Shoutarou and Ayaka had sex). Maybe I'm taking this shit too seriously, but it's disappointing to see a promising plot lose its touch with reality in favor of mindless sex.
I wish there could be more manga like Yanagida-kun to Mizuno-san. Roughly 200 pages about one couple exclusively having sex with each other. No adultery! Yes, you read that correctly, it's possible.
That's why I don't really like Gunma….Art is 10/10…story and character development is like 2/10…morality is 1/10…
Yanagida and mizuno is pure gold…why should you sleep with other people if you have someone you love?
