Hi everyone,

I’ve received 3 reports of a virus lurking around. From what I can understand, a portion of the visitors is geotargeted under unclear criteria and displayed a virus, fortunately not the worst kind, more like the annoying lurker type.

On top of all : please update your java engine (cf http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ for instance) to avoid the problem, it exploits a java fault in versions that aren’t up to date.

Second, I owe you an explanation : I don’t control myself the ads shown on hentairules, I myself just take money from the ad network who’s hiring it from me. The ad network guys sell it to whoever they want, their job is to only sell if to regular guys, but sometimes shady persons may buy it and inject evil code to a small fraction of the people with hopes of not being caught.

I reported the problem, but I can’t tell how long they’ll take finding who’s responsible. In the meanwhile, you must update your bloody machine anyway, you may have the best anvirus + best firewall (among the free ones, Comodo‘s my choice)+ best antimalware in the whole universe (I recommend Malwarebytes), it won’t help if you’re using outdated pluginsĀ  :D

And now, I’m eagerly waiting for the moronic (yes, I wrote : moronic, and I am ready to face a troll war on this subject, I’ll write it again : moronic) comments that as long as you’re careful, you can be a Windows user and not be using an AV software, with epic personal testimony :D

Hello! This post is getting on years, so here's a friendly mention... If all the links are dead, you may try using
THE HENTAIRULES GIGATORRENT
to grab the file you want. You can just pick the stuff you need, it's quick and easy :)

No idea. Keep everything up to date anyway, that's the rule.

Until Firefox 4 is officially out, if I need fast java and a fast browser, I launch Chrome. To each his specialty ;)

A horrible doubt crossed my mind, so I make a second reply. Pardon me if I'm stating stuff obvious to you.

Chrome, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari, whatever, they are NOT related to a java exploit. You MUST differenciate your programs used to browse the internet, and the plugins they're calling (like Java, PDF or Flash). Updating the browsers doesn't prevent you from updating the plugins.

Hey, it’s important to run antivirus and antimalware programs but I find it also helps to have an addon called NoScript installed on Mozilla Firefox. It basically stops all scripts except for the ones you allow. It takes a bit of getting used to but once you play around with it you’ll be able to figure out which scripts you know aren’t harmful versus the ones that when activated don’t do anything. Been using this for a while and whenever I scan my computer using my antimalware and antivirus programs I find 0 threats so it seems to work.

Ha, ha, ha. I got hit. I wonder where it came from.

Bloody wimpy virus, at start up it asks for permission to run.

"C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup"

Look there for a "text file." It's actually an .exe and deleting it with unlocker will do the trick.

HERP DE DERP.

Use Windows, get Firefox, add Noscript to block javascript exploits. Download hostsman and update your hosts file to block malware sites at the source. Feels good man.

Or, you know, you could just use Linux.

The only best anti-virus is your mind.

Thanks for the reminder and link, that’s the kind of thing I keep overlooking.

I use Opera browser and all of the annoying ads in this site is blocked so i dont have a trouble browsing your site

Opera may block ads by default, but it's got other security holes in the code that you could drive a train through. I generally let the users at the company I run IT for install what they want (within reason), but Opera? NO way in hell, not until they clean house.

It was, actually, quite a violent malware. I thought I lost my computer for an hour. But M'Bytes has always been the best, and thanks to it, well, I'm alive and fapping. Keep the good work, Monsieur.

"alive and fapping" may just be the most accurate and all-encompassing status update I've ever come across. The next time someone asks me how my life's been, I'll respond with this.
