I also can't stand the magical girl genre. However, a couple people recommended this series to me, and I am giving it a shot. It's a very dark deconstruction of the genre. I am very pleased with it so far.

Oliver, it would be a mistake to lump this series in with other magical girl stories. That setting is just to set you up in this case. My rule of trying three episodes before I decide to watch something or not made for an . . . interesting viewing experience in this case. Maybe give it a try if you usually don't care for the genre.
