Prejudiced sex ?

We may as well start with the usual complaint that the Japanese are freaking xenophobic asses and that for them being Black means being a sex-obsessed beast with a ridiculously caricatural “nigga”‘s face, blah, blah, blah.

Oh – Before I forget, if you’re a fan of Fushigi No Umi No Nadia, there are 3 pages in which we see the black man’s girlfriend, who looks a lot like an adult Nadia.

(I wrote a wall of text about the particularity of this Japanese racism, in my opinion, scroll down to the bottom of this post if you like ^^)
(3 updates : (1) credits are for Desu, (2) warning : this is an adultery story, and (3) I used the term “nigga” to describe a racist’s POV, not to express my own POV, okay ?)

Oh, and the story ? I also forgot. Candid and “open to his own feelings” black exchange student boy gets to taste japanese MILF pussy, and the owner of that pussy thoroughly digs it.
Credits are for Anon and Desu :)

By the same artist, I also share Ane Haha.

OK, it’s racist, because there’s a Black man soiling the purity of a Japanese MILF, sighing time.

But then, now that I think of it, this is SO different from my western-type racism, in which the hated ones are depicted as being fundamentally inferior and lame. Look at it, every time there’s a black man involved, he’s got a better dick, a better body, he’s more “listening” to what women want, he’s a hard worker, he doesn’t deserve to be locked for life inside a psychiatric ward (honestly, NEETS and hardcore otakus wouldn’t be tolerated like that outside of Japan)…

True, they’re also more openly “led by animal instinct”, but are Japanese men described differently in hentai mangas, hm ?

In all regards, Japanese males are being ridiculed by Black men.

This is racism, true, but of a different brand, as if the Japanese openly accept that they have a damn huge inferiority complex O_o

Can you imagine the antisemitic asswipes hating the Jews “because they’re better”, for instance ? The people making a confusion between muslim and bearded islamic terrorists, hating muslimsh because islam converts and spreads better ? Nope. Japanese racism is clearly something different. It’s an interesting idea.

Using the word "nigga" is always a classy idea…..

Lets not forget that the internet is one of the if not the most racial medium of communication…. why? because people always have tons of courage when in front of a screen than a black man's face.

I lived in Tokyo for a couple of years… racism is racism… stereotypes are stereotypes… even if they are perceived by some to be positive.

I know a LOT of white men with inferiority complexes that "dwarf" (pun intended) the Japanese

Ah, but you are misconstruing the problem: It’s not racism, it’s misogyny! The issue is not the MILF being soiled by the black man, it’s the yamato nadeshiko failing in her duties as a Japanese woman to maintain a cultural standard of decency, and thus falling prey to her actual desires rather than refusing to bow to temptation as a pure Japanese woman. Remember: For the most part, the woman’s needs in Japanese culture, assuming they are individual needs, are irrelevant. (Family, on the other hand, is another story)

That’s why you rarely see hentai where the women are honestly proud of their sexuality or asserting themselves in a non-domination way without some context for love or rape taking place.

I was not making this post about the actual hentai that was posted…. I was mainly talking about "Oliver's racism" or poor word choice, or inferiority complex or whatever the hell he is saying. He tried to explain Japanese racism but ended up revealing his own biases and prejudice.

    At guest above, what???

    @admin
I don't really understand what you're trying to say there. People are people. Whatever stereotypes people want to make up has no effect on the actual people who are it's subjects. It's unfortunate if some group of Japanese really believe any of those stereotypes, but there are many people who believe many strange things they hear. Unfortunately, one of these people saw fit to draw it in a manga form, and then for some reason, you chose to upload it here.

IMHO, it's better not to base a cultural reflection on any hentai manga. It could lead to frightening but irrelevant conclusions ^^

  7. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:57 am

I'm talking about a population's prejudice, not seeing black men as black men but as niggers, precisely.

As for me, I don't like blacks, but I also don't like whites, asians, indians, muslims, catholics, protestants, reformists, buddhists, shintoists, the poor, the rich, the hypocrites, the candids, and even much more people. I tend not to like groups anyway. Okay ?

  8. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:58 am

Care to develop what you're saying, please ?

It's very interesting, but I feel I'm not entirely grasping what you're saying…

    Please ?

  9. on November 18th, 2011 at 12:03 pm

What racism precisely, of mine ? If I'm to judge men as humans sekf-grouping with each other based on similarity, I tend to consider that there's not one of them to save the rest from hopelessness. Heck, even as a specy we're a huge, terrible FAIL, going to leave dust and ashes to Earth.

    Hey, thank you Zathael !

I'll update my post with that info by this evening :)

Would that REALLY be irrelevant ? ^^

  12. Zathael said,

I beg to differ, at least to some extent. Incest or Rape is a crime against a single person. Racism is a crime against an entire skin color, ethnic background, etc.

Put it this way: If I were to rape someone, they are the only victim. If I am racist (let's say against blacks), then every black person I ever meet is a "victim", because I will treat them all like they are scum.

  13. wcc said,

you sound more racist than anyone, making ignorant blanket statements about Japanese people.

plenty of blacks in America are racist as hell towards Asians and others. check out race riots in Philly school last year or the mass of black on white flash mob violence. all picking on other races because of perceived "weakness"

it's funny that you want to judge people for their perceptions. if anyone is responsible for perpetuating the "nigger" stereotype is black artists who hype that to sell albums and Jewish producers and execs who make millions selling that stereotype around the world. it takes a smart person to blame Japanese for all that.

  14. wcc said,

dont be stupid. hentai is fantasy not reality.

your stereotypes about a "woman's needs" in Japanese society makes me think you probably never even been to Japan and all your erudite rambling is based on anime and Western stereotypes of Japan

  15. VirR said,

Hmm…you are talking specific to this story, while Oliver is making a general observation of the depiction of African Americans in hentai. I agree that with respect to this story, race is not the main issue. The main issue here is adultery (I'm assuming she has a husband), Oliver failed to mention that. Adultery is condemned in almost all countries, not only in Japan. That's the reason why we can all agree that in general adulterous women (and men) are in the wrong, and that does not make us all misogynists, does it? Also, while the Japanese hold a woman's modesty and honor in high regard, higher than most western countries, they aren't that harsh towards women as to ignore all their needs.

With regards to the Oliver's observation, I haven't seen enough African Americans in hentai to know for sure, but as an Asian I can say this much: xenophobia and an inferiority complex has plagued us from very early on, and till now many still hold Westerners (to us both black and white people are foreign, so although we understand that the two races have their differences, an Asian would not see African Americans in the same light as Caucasians do) in high regard, harboring the irrational believe that they are superior to ourselves. Some turn that into admiration for the virtues seen in westerners, others become defensive and dislike westerners for their excesses, and worse, still others picture westerners as threats, so I think there is no one single stereotype that all Japanese pigeon-hole African Americans in. For instance this one here isn't very biased, perhaps exaggerating their sexual promiscuity, but nothing too offensive (like you said, Japanese men too are just as debauched in hentai). What you described seem to recall the African employees in Aoi Hitori's Memories of Japan, but don't forget ShindoL's Four Leaf Lover. So IMHO there's as much different stereotypes as there are types of people out there, though I haven't seen enough to be sure.

Sorry for the huge wall of text >_<", thanks for the share Oliver! I dig mature women with pubes.

Sorry if this seem rude, are you by any chance an African American? If yes, and if you've been here long enough, you'll know that Oliver didn't mean it that way (sometimes he can be misunderstood because of the way he say things), i think he's using the word to suggest what The Japanese might think of African Americans, not his own view. Either way yeah it's a sensitive word to use, but please be less quick to be defensive, even if this is the Internet. Oliver too, he seems to be in a peculiar mood today, extra talkative…

"Can you imagine the antisemitic asswipes hating the Jews “because they’re better”, for instance ?" Very probable actually. It is all too easy to turn people who we're jealous of into targets of our aggression or hatred. Just weave a damn lie about how we're superior to them (false statistics will help a lot), that we deserve more than them, and you'll see how readily people will jump onto the bandwagon to get rid of the outstanding.

  21. Somer said,

    on November 18th, 2011 at 7:02 pm

But that's a little off topic. Oliver you sure are daring to talk about racism, especially since it's your own speculation (I presume? Prove me wrong if I'm mistaken.) about an entire nation, one that lots of people know little about, myself included. Hope you aren't biting than you can chew.

  22. widowchaser said,

It's a cheating story so I skipped it, racism not being the operative reason for me to pass. I am kind of shocked by the turn this thread has taken though. I live in the deep South of the U.S. so I won't bullshit anybody that I know nothing about racism. But I had hoped the rest of the world had made some progress. Maybe not so much.

  23. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:31 pm

Somer, you're right, and this is deeply depressing, I should have realized :(

  24. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:33 pm

Yep, had a bad day :D

But all in all, I think what I wrote is true.
As soon as a group of humans start behaving as a group, they go wrong., As groups, we've had wars, prejudice, hatred, discrimination and collective irresponsability. We can like a neighbour whatever skin or religion he has, but our group and his groups can hate each other and fuck everything up :(

  25. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:34 pm

I added double quotes around the word "nigga" just to make it clearer that it wasn't my own thoughts about it. Tiny addition, but I hope it helped.

  26. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:42 pm

Hmm, it will depend, don't you think ?
If you rape someone (hypothetically speaking, lol), the person is actually hurt. If you're racist, you can spend your entire life like that, only giving blacks/jews/muslims/caucasians/whatever the cold shoulder. I don't think it's worse, in that case. But then again, it will depend on personal situations.

  27. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:46 pm

Interesting point of view from an insider, thank you :)

Sorry I forgot to mention adultery, I've developed a strong immunity toward that theme, and I had something else in mind when writing my description !

  28. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:49 pm

Erm, just developing my reply further : hentai isn't "just porn", it's one of the aspects of Japanese culture. It's severely based on stereotypes and clichés, in order to make more sales, but it's still one of the mirrors giving us an image of the Japanese, I believe.

  29. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:53 pm

As soon as we're talking about racism over the internet, we ARE biting more than we can chew, Somer, you must know it :)

I've once been called a fascist because I was doing a moderator's job on an internet forum, calling people to keep cool and editing a post full of insults to only leave the acceptable parts… And it acted as vaccine, since that day, I understand that it's okay to talk about stuff, even serious stuff, it's impossible NOT to cause negative reactions.

Better risk to bite more than I chew than simply shut up and leave interesting discussion opporunities unused.

Sure, i'm butthurt that some people think I'm a racist because I wrote "nigga", while I wanted to depict a racist term used by racists, but, heck, my own fault, I should have written it differently, I guess.

  30. on November 18th, 2011 at 11:54 pm

What's shocking you, Widowchaser, if I may ask ?

If it hurts to reply, just skip that post, but it's not everyday that there are interesting discussion opportunities !

This whole thing was weird. She tells him he should be jerking off instead of having sex if he's horny? Do people really say that? And hating people because they're better. What a weird and interesting idea. I can't really imagine that. Something like that is really just another stereotype though. All of one race or culture group will not always be better. All of one country cannot possibly be worse at something. And believe me, all black men are not impossibly well endowed. No, really. There are even support groups for 'average' and 'small' black men because they have issues for not fulfilling the stereotype! Racism and stereotypes are so ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the scenario in this story.

  33. Somer said,

    on November 19th, 2011 at 2:29 am

True, there is prejudice and there is discrimination. The former is a thought, the latter is acting based on the thought. Everyone has their own prejudices, however small, because we are human afterall. But only a few choose to act upon those false believes and violate the rights of others. Traditionally, that divide between action(something that will affect the world) and thought(something that stays within the head) is what separates normal people from racists, but scrutinise the words of anyone close enough and one can reveal his or her prejudices, that's why on the Internet, where people are less careful of what they say, racism seems so prevalent. It's impossible to get rid of prejudice, though we can try to hide it better by getting people realise that their casual words on blogs and tweets can constitiute an action of discrimination.

Disclaimer: I'm not Japanese myself (I'm Singaporean), so although I spoke as an Asian, it must be made clear that I too am merely speculating, as I am no expert when it comes to this enigmatic society, not by a long shot. I'm just pointing out the fact that in any society, the views of individuals are diverse, hence it's unlikely that there exist a common untrue belief about something within the populace, not in this age where we're all so connected.

  35. Somer said,

    on November 19th, 2011 at 3:24 am

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of, but I guess you're right, the more sensitive the issue, more we should openly talk about it. And yeah, we need to stay rational, open minded, and critical not only of others but towards ourselves, that's easier said than done. I know you're not that much of a racist, not least on this site.

  36. VVen said,

    on November 19th, 2011 at 4:03 am

Now you make more sense, yeah, there's a psychological term for it: diffusion of responsibilty, or what I like to call collective madness (but no, insanity defence won't help them), but not all groups/organisations are pure evil and none can be good enough to please everyone, it all depends on the goals of the group, whether they seek to help others or to harm others so as to help themselves.

  37. VVen said,

    on November 19th, 2011 at 5:24 am

From what I've read regarding Japanese view of African Americans, the Japanese view of them are indeed generally positive (Japanese girls especially, who seems to think of black men as attractive), a large part of it is because most Japanese hold a resentment towards Americans, who they deem as oppressive, and since African Americans are too discriminated against in the US, it's a odd resonance, at least to Japanese. During the 2008 presidential elections, online polls from Japan overwhelmingly sided the then candidate Obama.

It was a Chinese book, written by a Chinese who stayed in Japan for over ten years, and as far as I could tell, it was objective and sharp, and far from the usual Fenqing (leftist Chinese youth) stuff you get once in a while on Chinese forums.

  39. ??? said,

    on November 19th, 2011 at 5:52 am

Okay. I think, as you're obviously aware, the spectrum of straight hentai falls into two axes: One concerning love to rape in terms of the sexual nature, the other representing the degree of male control. Almost never does the woman assert herself in these stories, or show herself as individual (as opposed to someone in the nexus of the male lead) in a positive manner. This is not necessarily a negative thing at times in terms of storytelling, but in the event of adultery, the fact is that the woman's role is often shown as treacherous or a desecration of purity, even in an NTR scenario. And when a woman asserts her own needs, it's depicted as wrong in some way.

On the other hand, the male can get away with just about anything. Multiple partners? It's a harem story with at most some jealousy included for the sake of story (and not turning into a complete Marty Stu fantasy). Fancying another girl? That girl may eventually win out somehow or not, but the male is almost always given an excuse for his transgression (which is never shown as being unfaithful). Rape/mind break? He is not the focal point, the rape victim is for being unable to resist and for failing to not turn into a piece of trash. Committing NTR? Again, not the focal point, the woman being stolen (and her "sucks to be you" real lover) is as failing to resist. And rarely do we see the real lover getting back at the philanderer. The male is rarely shown in a justly negative light, and even in NTR/rape/mind break stories, they are depicted as secondary to the true failure. And, almost never does the male lead commit adultery, and if they do, they never get shown as a lech and philanderer.

In this story, the black male is secondary. He is merely a caricature representing the women's temptation to fall. You could replace the black man with a white man, a Middle Eastern man, a rich man, a skeezy groper on a train, a buff man, a futa, anything (except maybe Chinese or Koreans, if only cos that is still a sore spot). What you cannot replace it with is an average Japanese male, because, according to the authors' beliefs, average Japanese men would never commit adultery as a crime. Granted, some of that comes from the inferiority complexes that often appear in all men of average or lesser standing, but it's never as prominent in fiction as it is here.

That's what I mean by misogyny: That the woman is almost always shown as primarily at fault for her lot, not the male. It matters not who she is committing it with in these situations.

I guess painting it as a representation of Japanese culture as a whole was not prudent (as VirR pointed out). But it is quite representative of what we see in these mangas. And regardless of what people like wcc think, misogyny is still misogyny, whether it's something like this adultery story, it's the stoning of a woman who was gangraped because the law written says it's adultery, or it's a caviar socialist getting away with the rape of an immigrant maid due to lack of conclusive evidence and the victim being treated as a liar and a fake.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I think it was best to address everything in one go.

I'm not even gonna try to pick a post from the blobs of post above because it seems so confusing.
What are you guys trying to achieve by the discussion?

Oliver is trying to say the hentai mangaka is relaying his 'racist' opinion of dark-skinned Americans (how's that?), but not in a way that Americans does. The stereotype among Americans is that they look down on colored people (mm you can argue, but the textbooks I read say so.. or novels I read for my English class). Meanwhile the mangaka shows an inferiority complex against the dark-skinned Americans.

That's it. What's the big deal with the blobs of text? Why the attacks?
And just days ago Oliver thanked the hentai community for being welcoming and helpful. And now this?
And for this time I won't call anyone trolls.. But please – as much as this is the internet, there are better places to throw a 'I don't give a damn' attitude : And a hentai thread – is definitely not the best place. I can tell you that I ALWAYS read the comments section for every hentai I see (download/not download) in Oliver's site.

Oh, and as the warning said, this side is 18+ :p

I won't say "overwhelmingly", looking at several polls, it was around 50~60+% for Obama with about 25% null votes for Japan, not that different from the statistics from other countries at thtat time. Besides, let's not bring in politics(American or Chinese) to complicate matters, shall we?

Because throughout the internet, international users often ridicule Americans for many reasons(Happens here quite a bit, and you, Oliver, are not totally clean of it) and one of the points often used against Americans is the racism that still exists in America, and how other nations are more evolved socially.

Sure it's a weird place to be discussing racism, but I agree with Oliver on it been an opportunity for discussion. And I got what Oliver and you are saying, I tried responding (but made me look like a schizo:x) Lastly, no worries, I'm 19;)

Now, I wouldn't call the subject painful, just unpleasant in a 'turd in the punchbowl' kind of way. What shocked me was the realization that when it comes to the rest of the world lambasting the U.S. about racism, it appears as often as not, it's a case of 'the pot calling the kettle black.' And THAT is what shocked me.

Anyone remember the book "Rising Sun" by the late Michael Crichton? Written in 1992, just before the Japanese economy went into to decline, it told the story of a LA police officer who was a liason to the Japanese community. Controversy erupted for the movie, when Wesley Snipes, a black man, was cast in that role, as there were comments by commentators that a black man would never have been given that role in real life as the Japanese would be mortally insulted.

Japan is a closed society, and is discriminatory toward all other races. This is a general discussion of a nationality, allowing as always for exceptions to the rule. Every so often a politician will spout off about something which makes it over to the Western press. 70-80 years ago, Japan committed the most horrible of war crimes, much of it racially based. Using live Chinese prisoners as targets for bayonet practice. Vivisections of live POWs. Taking tens of thousands of Asian women to serve as forced prostitutes. Times have changed, but Japan never confronted its war crimes to the same extent as Germany did, including the racial aspect of it.

I love Japan. They are incredibly gracious to guests. But the racism remains deeply ingrained, and there are varying degrees of it. I can't honestly say how they compare other Asians to Caucasians, but Oliver is absolutely right: Japanese racial stereotyping of blacks can be the worst, with their sexual stereotyping of blacks being something almost straight out of a KKK manual.

It is a mistake to assume that any racism or racial attitudes are the same worldwide. A local African-American columnist got offended years back by J.K. Rowling describing one of her Harry Potter characters as a "black boy," applying his history to that of a Scottish writer.

Much of Japanese racism is based on ignorance. What we're reading here is mostly wirtten by Japanese for a Japanese audience with a total unconcern about Western audiences and attitudes. And due to the racial uniformity of Japanese society, they've got no checks and balances to often be aware that they are doing something offensive.

Seen worse than this manga. Erect Seweru did a small series about American white and black men and japanese women that was down right wrong.(Then again anything he does is 'wrong' by this site's standards) Then there is western comic porn that portrays blacks as outright women hating rapist scumballs more times than not. Frankly the lack of black men in h-manga could be a blessing because they aren't in the mangaka's 'crosshair' for being badly stereotyped. . .to be outright ignored or to be badly stereotyped. . .decisions, decisions. . .

Much of the time, any foreigner is stereotyped in manga and anime. Usually the out of date or worse traits are chosen based on nationality, race, etc.

I think by now everyone would have realised this by themselves (sorry but you didn't have to try so hard to convince us of what we already know), but you know that hentai authors can't afford to offend their audience – which I believe are ~95% males, or even more. Of course most of them have to avoid stories that put the male character in a negative light, for the simple that it's not gonna sell, esp. since people buy hentai to fap to, not to read as a novel (of couse there will always be idiots, but that's another matter). It's also for that reason that we can't infer what Japan is like from only hentai (yes I know you didn't).

And what you label as "misogyny" is a common phenomenon: double standards, sexism, chauvinism, it has taken many guises over the few milleniums, it's a fact of life that people just can't shake away.

Yeah, like that Shintaro Ishihara. God that guy makes my blood boil…and the fact that he's still in office and not in prison/asylum just shows how twisted and tangled the politics of Japan is.

Just looked up Ishihara…Holy crap what a jerk! Why has no one had this man committed just to erase the blight on Japan? Is he that much of a representative of Japan's politicians? Anyone who made such comments even here in Southern U.S would find a mob outside his house.

I understand it being a bit of pointing out the obvious. But sometimes it just gets to me. Especially when Oliver sees the problem as simply racism. Still, you have a point about it just being porn.

That said, the common phenomenon may be a fact of life, but it don't mean we can't change it, you know? Gotta take a stand somewhere, even if it seems futile. Gotta stop the hate somewhere.

You can start by protesting against the entire porn industry, but you'll have to stop fapping first.

People seem to forget that Japan is the homeland of the Japanese, which are all asians. USA has a very diverse culture. Think about it, USA is the homeland of the Native Americans, which were all nearly wiped out by white people. The white people are hear because they stole this land, the black people are here because the white people forced them to come as slaves, everyone else came here because their economy was ruined by globalization by the white people. And we STILL have racism in this country. Most of the media still have mostly white people, black people are still a minority in them, Hispanics even more, even though whites are becoming a minority in real life.
And really, why do I always see people looking into hentai to learn about Japan?
