If a major website like Wikipedia (not only them) is going to perform a full-day blackout to protest against something, you can safely infer this is no small problem, don’t you think ?

So, have you heard of SOPA and PIPA ? Two similar projects going to fuck everyone deep down without consent, and going to compromise lots of positive things regarding all the American’s daily lives (and not just making quality internet porn harder to get), also affecting the internet ecosystem worldwide.

This is some SERIOUS SHIT (one link among thousands and thousands), and don’t trust rumours saying the shit has quieted down or has been abandoned by Obama, the hydra refuses to die, while PIPA tries to proceed more discreetly but without stopping. It’s not a war ending with just one battle.

The Industry is showering your politicians with funds to get their support (funnily, in any other democracy this would be called blatant corruption), but remember YOU are the ones electing them, or allowing them to be elected when you prefer to say fapping at home while watching commercials rather than going to vote outside of your home.

For heaven’s sake, express yourselves, there are hundreds of ways to do it, don’t let the politicians believe they can do without you.
End of the long story, if the idea hasn’t penetrated though everyone’s skull and you’re not convinced yet to involve yourselves even a little bit, there’s not much more to do and you deserve what’s coming to you, because the big Industry won’t give up.

Tocqueville and Lafayette would have been disgusted and would have quickly returned home, but heck, if they returned to their home as it has become today, they'd also run away yelling that everything's gone wrong, sadly.

Fuck SOPA.

And blacking out HR.net would be… supported by me.

SOPA has been put on hold "until a consensus can be reached"…They'll most likely reuse parts of it in a year or 2 and try to pass another law like it but this specific one is most likely never going to pass.
Its barely less evil twin PIPA is still going to the senate on the 24th of january tho, so no reason to stop protesting.

I agree, SOPA & PIPA are seriosly messed up. I dont really read the news but happened to catch this today and was stunned, i thought that was settled a while back.
I'm behind Allen7 in blacking out the site for the day, as much as I love my porn I love freedom even more, and where else can you find freedom today aside from the internet or inside your own head and dreams it seems.
P.S.- First time posting here on HR and would like to say love the site, long time visitor, one of my favorite and probably most visited sites. Just wanna say great work& thanks =}

I've been saying this for YEARS: WE, the United States of Anerica citizens, ELECT these douchebags into office and when they do bad stuff or stuff we don't agree on, we protest. Uh…is that hypocrisy? Or just plain idiocy?

I mean, GET REAL PEOPLE!! Politicians LIE AND CHEAT their way into office and when we find out WE PROTEST?!?! HOLY FUCKING SHIT AMERICANS ARE DIPSHITS! (yes I'm American but Israeli at birth) Like my grandfather always said: "In politics, the only friends you have are your false promises and the support they gain." I left Israel to have a lot more freedom but now I want to go back because everyone here ARE IDIOTS

Lol, do you people really think Congress is going to listen to the regular people? They are completely owned by corporations. The only way the people will get what they want is armed revolution. America is a lost cause.

Keep in mind that our government isn't inherently evil- it's just incredibly incompetent no matter who ends up getting elected. And the people aren't much better in that respect. All an armed revolution will do is make the government go from being controlled by idiots to being controlled by even bigger idiots.

I suggest replacing all politicians with robots- at least they can't screw it up any worse than who we have now. Assassination of the lobbyists providing support to the bill is an appealing option as well, although it would be far too risky to actually carry out.

It won't take Republicans long to fuck us over with some "new law" that is loosely based on SOPA and PIPA, Oliver. Five months max.

They are damned determined to turn the US into their own private hell and take us 300M+ Sim citizens along for the ride. Just look at what they did to get the NDAA pushed through.

Seriously? we actually need this sort of debate against SOPA/PIPA(which {sic} in porceguesue? means wine barrel stopper.) I believe that the pervs and standups will make a statement and show how pointless this truly is!

We must think for ourselves much more than we use to do. Because societies have fragile foundations, we should make informed choices, get involved and take responsibity of our actions wether the results are glorius or disasters.

Damn, this is worse than the censorship laws in Japan! Cazzo! Petzo di Merda! Figlio de Putana! Yawa!

We should tell others.

I love how people are pretending that the average American is a total idiot. >_> Really? I don’t care were you’re from every government in the world pulls from the same bag of tricks. Fear, distrust, lies, cheating, stealing and brainwashing propaganda. No one is voting for someone and then protesting … if anything a smll part of the general population tries to force feed their values to everyone else in direct opposition to our best interests. Sometimes it works mostly it doesn’t, but if history has taught us anything it’s that people are most vulnerable when they feel frustrated and downtrodened. Anyone can be manipulated. If anything it’s our duty to be aware and in this case tell them to choke on their damn bribes.

I am not living in USA so I don't know the news here, but why every site is talking about SOPA today (wikipedia, hentairules, twitch.tv, …) ? what' happened ? this project of law has been created a few months ago, isn't it ?

Every site is talking about it since it is pure censorship.
Worse it is not even the government which decides what to censor but businesses. Even worse is that those laws work on a guilty by association and a guilty until you prove a negative (not possible btw) basis.
Want to prevent americans from visiting a website. Just make a claim, in 'good faith' that they promote piracy. No evidence needed, no defence by said site possible. Want to cause serious pain? Hand the same 'good faith' claim to PayPal, credit card companies and other payment processors and wham no more income.
Oh and promoting piracy is talking about something like using BitTorrent legally to download your latest Linux distro (heaven forbid you put up an actual link to this legal download). So a site like Reddit which depends on its users would not be able to exist since just about anything they put up would be seen as promoting piracy.

Why the ruckus? The only reason that they (the senate/congress) even responded is that Reddit managed to raise some serious cash for one of the opponents of the one of the current supporters (should have seen the speed of the backpedaling there, really didn't want to lose the cushy job in Washington) and people started talking about doing that to every single supporter.

This is also the reason that some of the biggest websites are going black, to get even more people to know what is going to happen so as to have an easier time when this pair of laws gets resurrected (and they will) to find support against them.

This is the best our do nothing congress can do. Instead of fixing more pressing issues such as NATIONAL DEFICIT and JOB CREATION they would rather censor the internet and quite possibly cause another economic fiasco.

According to CBS news, The Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on PIPA on January 24. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, who sponsored SOPA, said Tuesday he expects the committee to continue work on the House bill in February. So both are FAR from dead…

Boing Boing wrote: "Making one link would require checking millions (even tens of millions) of pages, just to be sure that we weren't in some way impinging on the ability of five Hollywood studios, four multinational record labels, and six global publishers to maximize their profits."

If you want to register your displeasure with congress against SOPA & PIPA, Google has a handy petition you can sign with just your name, email & zip: https://www.google.com/

They are NOT listening to us.

They've stolen our money right out of our pockets to "bail out" companies that should have gone bankrupt and caused our market crashes….and they still won't fix it….

When BP oil spilled their oil in the gulf, Obama's congress passed a payout CAP on damages….

We're being taken into wars that we don't want to be involved in…..they are RUINING US!!!!

I’ll comment, if you go to the google homepage there is a link that allows you to fill out a petition against SOPA and PIPA. Also I belive the ACLU page has a form letter you can fill out and send to your congressmen and senators. You gotta let your voice be heard. The US is a land of 1000+ tyrants. The way our system is designed; checks and balances are one way they are kept in line, but legal redress by our citizens is the other.

It saddens me to see so many people with such a conformist view on he matter. Nothing is lost, yet. Don't just say how the senate is dumb or how politicians are all sell-outs. Protest. Go to the streets. Sign a petition. Do anything, just don't stay put. I'm not a US citizen, but I'm doing anything I can to stop this heinous act.

Look at it this way. Soon you won't have to deal with Americans, as your site will be blocked to them because this is all technically pirated material.

I don't like SOPA and PIPA so if you dont like it either , you should sign this two protests: https://www.google.com/ http://avaaz.org/en/

Even if you don't live on the US this is something that affects us all and as "FFighter" said we cannot stay put we should act, and I am too with the people who say that there should be a black on HR, Olive and if you would be so kind you should tell them about the protests so they can give their little grain of sand…………thank you

Olivier, bien que SOPA et PIPA soient actuellement l'urgence, en Europe on doit faire face à ACTA. Je te conseille de te renseigner à ce propos, qui mérite tout autant notre attention :)

(in english- while SOPA and PIPA are what's urgent atm, in Europe the ACTA bill is meant to do the same, so you should also take a look at it and act against it)

looks like i lurked too much the past few days.. only seen this now. so SOPA will fuck us for good if it gets passed. why? tokyo has a fucked up governor which means anime would be killed. the supporters(that's us with the use of the net)keep it alive by means of the so-called piracy. with this turd on the way, it's gonna hurt anime industry and as you have probably guessed by now, kill hentai. well, the good news is that it's in america.. there's always an option for a riot concerning this over binding the freedom of the internet.
if anyone is still wondering why anime is connected to hentai, i'll sum it up in a really complex words: plane tickets. still don't get it? meh.. american guys/gals, pls fight this thing.. the jap lost on their turf so at least fight back on yours

Congress will listen if you actually call them, as they do count the number of people who call. Anyone can send an email or fill out an online petition. A written letter is good as well. I called my representative and both state senators. I didn't get to talk directly to any of them but I made my displeasure in SOPA and PIPA well known to them. It's an election year for most of them so most are putting their fingers in the air to see what way we're going. Please make your voices known, or sites like this one may be a thing of the past.
