I suppose you guys have heard about the Megaupload Vs Dumbfuckistan case, right ? Its aftereffects were almost immediate on Zip hosts, most of them chickened out – and I can’t blame them for being careful, damnit all :(

Filejungle, filepost, and others stopping in their tracks, others starting deleting everything from accounts, other banning US visitors…

One of the aftereffects I had not foreseen was that filesonic would simply stop distributing files, it blows, once again :(

I feel really sorry for all of you, but there’s no helping it unfortunately, and it’s fair game for them to try to protect themselves :(

As for me, I switched to other hosts, based in Russia, who knows, they might be safer. I’m mostly giving up on the beer money, I can survive without it, as long as I’m paying my hosting it’s just fine and there’s no prob.

I was joking with Biri about it on twitter (he didn’t thoroughly enjoy the joke), after all fucking banksters and crazy money holders have their tax havens, but for filesharers, lets have the same, the future might be North Korea hosting biatch ! ¬_¬

Last note : just in case, you know, I took another domain, that can’t be seized by the party van :
HENTAIRULES.ME
I am NOT moving from hentairules.net, but, heck, I’m becoming paranoid, it’s a “just in case” measure, okay ? ;) Simply remember that alternative exists, ready to replace the .net if the .net is broken.

also you can protect your own files changing the name on the upload site (for example hntyrlz234.zip instead the complete name pf the hmanga AND site where it come from) or simmilar to avoid the deleting files by copyright, or even more paranoid, add a password to the file.. :|

I have to note that this has undoubtedly deleted a ton of legal files and the banning of U.S visitors is also dubious (I've never been supportive of sites banning any nation of origin).

FWIW Dumbfuckistan may be responsible for many of the problems in the world, but in the case of SOPA & Megaupload you're laying the blame on the wrong people. The only people who are for this are the Hollywood film studios and the big music industry executives in New York City who stand to profit from preventing anyone from downloading anything, no matter what the cost. 99% of the country, including the warlike peoples of Dumbfuckistan, are not at all okay with everything that went down last week.

David P. Summers

The whole idea of "Dumbfuckistan" is nothing more than simplistic partisanship anyway. The whole idea that we have two "sides" which will dismiss each other in whole cloth is a source of many of our problems.

I have to ask this very important question, Oliver: Does your wife know about this site? I ask this because a couple months ago, one of the porn trackers I use started facing significant pressure from the studios. Consequently, anything that was associated with the tracker got pressured. In particular, a user's seedbox (which I happened to be using) got shut down due to pressure, especially when said user's wife was being called and asked questions about it.

I suspect there will be little done in your niche (simply because translations of manga that will never reach stateside anyway are not of particular). But it's important to keep your bases covered.

It blows… But it's merely "the chickens coming home to roost."

For far too long we've been enjoying these types of "freedoms." And the lot of us had forgotten that the lot of the stuff we wanted were made by people, were paid money to do it, and expecting money from the others who would buy them. It's all hired work.

My fear is that, when the US finally becomes China, that everything in entertainment will be as redundant, mean-spirited, idiotic, and downright loud-mouthed as it's always been. Maybe even more so.

Oliver i have multiple questions for you!!!!!

what about the other posts that contain megaupload and filesonic only downloads???

will they be updated(probably not)?

i just hope some of the old files have alternative mirriors.

also if IF IF IF IF for some reason they plan on taking down this site(which i will be fucking pissed) it's good that your moving on to a new file extension.

and in case the US members do get block for some reason(not saying you'll block us) please please send us a message for you hidden alternative site or anything??/

i just hope you won't leave us(which i am 2000% sure you won't)

think of it as a morse code for the members of the site.

and yeah i will never EVER stop visiting this site. even if i have to move the fuck out of USA just to access your site i'll fucking do it.

it's ridiculous how the US has veen bossing and fucking around the net.

Well, I can basically find them now (but it's kind of slow) considering every host Oliver has ever used has shut down, but… The same thing is true for uploading. There aren't any good ones that work in every country (including the US, which is a requirement otherwise I wouldn't be able to upload the files at all) to upload to.. so it's kind of pointless, redundant and impossible.

I'm gonna take a break from uploading stuff for awhile and wait and see what happens =/

Weren't we just celebrating hentairules' birthday a few weeks ago?? And now this..
What I don't like about what the US government is doing.. Is taking Internet to their own hands.. Even though US played a big part in its bring-up (ARPANET) and maintenance (5 out of 10 Tier-1 networks), there are billions of people using the internet and US accounts for only 200 million of it (and of course only a liddle # who wants it like this)

Anyway.. I'll continue to come to hentairules.. I believe after people become desperate, there'll be a solution out there (people enjoyed Napster, taken down, then they came up with Kazaa. Taken down, they move to torrent..)

@Touhoufanatic but the damage has been done.

Mediafire has been cited as having a 'good relationship' with the FBI etc, so they should be safe for a while.
I'm willing to spend a few $$ to get these stuff, but then there are tons of h manga out there not translated, and we don't want each person paying a different translator just to be able to read them, and some of them (college students) that are not ready to shell their $$ yet..

I hope after their show of power they don't try to take down batoto/online reader sites.. but yeah I can see IRC becoming active again..
I don't hate the notion of protecting copyright, but taking down 'essential services' is what slows down innovation, back to the Catholic churches in Luther's time..

Bottom line: let us prevail.

Don't give me that "blue state" BS. Copyright and IP is over the heads of most Americans. That there was a bipartisan consensus about this prior to the mounting opposition is simply a result of people being heavily lobbied to sit and yip.

Besides, the primary source of the opposition was also in California. It was NorCal v. SoCal here, truly.

Hi,
Their is something funny about all this story , technically and by that I mean legally Megaupload is for now not guilty of anything. The judge that started all this simply stated that they where a strong presumption of culpability and an investigation was need . In fact they where no sentence because as of right now Megaupload is not guilty of anything , Oliver you appear to be french unless I am mistaken , http://www.zdnet.fr/blogs/infra-net/coupure-de-me… . This link gives you a better explanation then mine . To me it seem the FBI made a big stretch from innocent til guilty to shutting down all of megaupload even the "honest" part of it

Megaupload's takedown has nothing to do with SOPA and is not a product of SOPA or PIPA as both of those proposed laws got shot down last week: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/21/technology/sena…. The events that transpired in New Zealand were supported by the NZ police and American FBI and the battle between the MU and anti-piracy reps had been occurring over many years now: http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/286125/20120123/m…. This not something that sprung up in a half month's time, people just weren't paying attention until Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and a host of other celebs opened their big mouths to "support" MU. [Sometimes the best support is no support at all. Kim Dotcom was a slimy individual who was under fire for other indictments.

In regards to SOPA and PIPA, the USA has been other countries to fold to internet censorship as well. Notably Spain http://techgoggles.in/index.php/usa-pressurethreaten-spain-into-implementing-internet-censorship-law/. But other countries, such as France http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1591582/france-falls-internet-censorship are doing it on their own. China needs no sources as we all know that they're pretty bad about it [refusing billions the ability to obtain information]. The difference is, unlike other countries, the USA did not buckle to its own pressure. The people shot that noise down. The USA has been an active proponent of free speech–for itself–but other nations let the US push it around. I don't agree with this. Internet censorship will most likely continue flourishing worldwide, but it's going to be fought hard here. Other nations need to step up and voice their opinion on this issue rather than just folding.

That is true to an extent. However my gripe is how these monopolies get licenses for foreign anime they have no intention on airing completely in the US or distributing on DVD or BD like One Piece, Naruto, Detective Conan, etc and want to whine about people downloading the subtitled episodes 3 to 5 years ahead of the current stuff.

Are hollywood and others ready? No,their not ready to evolve.Apple did a good job with the Ipod and iTunes model of online music and movie sales.

I hope the Industry as whole would leave their draconian way of thinking and set aside the dickinesh and the greed for a more contructive way of earning dollars and pleasing the fans in a fair way, thats gonna make piracy redundant.

Man, this is like Pirate Bay all over again, except now every other service is running off scared. Shit. Thing is, Mega Upload can hardly be blamed for something like this, as the rewards program was meant to motivate people into uploading more of their files for filesharing, not to promote piracy. And even then, they did what they could to remove illegal files from the network, but now they're being treated like some evil masterminds.

Our politicians are idiots sometimes, I swear. Thing is, others think that with "voting power", but really all legal decisions are done by politicians, and we know how honest politicians can be on their stances towards various issues. The only REAL power us individual N. Americans have is the power to petition, but even those don't have any real power in them.

All we can do is wait and see how this turns out, and hopefully it'll blow over soon. If not, you can kiss the free internet good-bye, ladies and gentlemen.

A lot of comments, so pardon me if this has been brought up already.

If the filesharing websites go down, you could try doing Torrents? Since they are P2P clients, they stay in a smaller pool of consumers and you can hardly do anything about them, aside from shutting down websites like IsoHunt and Mininova, which only host the torrent files in question, not the actual media attached.

It seems the Hentairules community is a devoted bunch, I wouldn't see an issue with people seeding the manga. At least maybe us it as another means to distribute. People do it with gigantic files like movies and tv shows, I'm sure some JPEGs wouldn't be too much of a hassle.

…Uh… They could report your IP to your Internet Service Provider and effectively end your access to the Internet completely.

Or sue you. They don't seem to give a shit about how things work anymore, so they could probably get away with using an IP as evidence now.

I hope this blows over. And fast. If Rapidshare gives into this mass deleting a lot of stuff will be lost for good. I just don't get it in a way. All these major corps in the music and movie biz still make a lot of cash. We can't be hurting them so bad. And it's stupid to think you can force people to stop piracy. And even if you could, not everyone that does it would simply start buying from them. Who has that kind of money. Just look what it costs to download one song from itunes when it's all digital. They are just greedy.
But I can see their point with movies. Downloading Bluray, hdtv and dvd stuff or movies that are still running in the cinema isn't good.
But why shouldn't I be allowed to download tv series in the 175/350mb format. That stuff is paid by the commercials and paid for when it airs. And I could also tape that stuff in that quality when it airs. Downloading that should be legal. And if the studios would be smart they'd make that stuff available themselves and earn money with ads.

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed. And I don't think hentairules has anything to worry about with hentai.
