You’ll probably see me testing various file hosts in the following days, when you see I’m offering a new host, if you try it, thanks to report if was straight dead for you (like turbobit and letitbit sometimes banning US visitors and telling them the links are dead) and where you’re from :)

If you’re lazy, check to see of other persons already reported – or not – being in the same situation as you ;)

***

Another idea, I’m now seriously thinking of getting a “my own zip file host” system, there are scripts for that on the internet.
Something like a mediafire-like, except that user uploads would be disabled, only the admin could upload his stuff. And the file would be shared, with small restrictions for free users, without restrictions for paying members (hoping not to butthurt anyone, but server costs are server costs, and I’d want my tip from all the time and effort).
This way I’d be sure the files would stay alive and work well, for everyone. With less fear that a paranoid file host would close down without warning à la filesonic or would start banning Americans are more and more file hosts, and that all my uploading time would have been for naught in the end :-/

What do you think of it, I hope you don’t think it would make me a sort of evil abuser ? Honestly, I care about your opinion, voice yourself :)

Hello! This post is getting on years, so here's a friendly mention... If all the links are dead, you may try using
THE HENTAIRULES GIGATORRENT
to grab the file you want. You can just pick the stuff you need, it's quick and easy :)

A few thoughts, Oliver:

-One, it woule probably be the only online service I actually pay for, if you go through with it
-Two, take bitcoin payments!
-Three – Are you worried about legal ramifications of administrating a service like the proposed one? I mean, the 'accepting tips for your hard work' part sounds perfectly fair to me, but it set off mental warning bells too.

Bulletupload is working, slowly, but working.
Letitbit is a bit terrible (blocked in the US of A)
Turbobit hates Jdownloader, but works in browser (interrupts any download over a certain limit).
Depositfile might be down indefinitely from what I hear.
Cheers Oliver!

You can go the doujin-moe.us way wich imo is by far the best service I have experienced for h-manga ever and benefits them and the scanlators.

But if you have the resources you can do something like batoto but for H-Manga, otherwise u will be not different from mangahere/mangafox or “insert random name agregator here”, who just profit for other people’s work/time.

Just my 2 cents.

Oliver won't use that because the last time he did the site closed which forced him to have to manually fix all of the links which he couldn't be arsed to do (all of the 2008 and under posts suffer usercash errors IIRC).

Also, Adfly barely gives any money (took me half a year to get enough to get the minimum amount of 5 bucks) and have started adding in surveys.

Plus if someone uses a downloader like Jdownloader or Mipony they can skip right by it and the uploader (in this case, Oliver) would not get credited for it.

Do whatever you must, the spice must flow.

Seriously, its your site to run as you see fit. Leechers (such as moi) will adapt to whatever method you decide works best for you.

Just make sure you're not exposing yourself legally. Good luck!

ADeadGuy

I agree with you, all the way. Oliver, whatever you do, don't get yourself in any sort of legal bind.

As far as I am concerned, I would be fine with a Hentairules filesharing (read:downloading) system. But practically, do what you must. Make it work.

The only change that would stop me from coming here is if there were no files do download at all. Except maybe a SOPA/PIPA reincarnation… I hate my government.

I see myself spend money into hosting file by the past, so I'm not against "helping" you if you make your own hosting service.

I have been pondering which upload site I should pay for where the maximum number of things I enjoy are stored. I would probably subscribe with your service (in a on-again/off-again fashion) if you did decide to take this route.
As others have said, though, be careful. At the very least, do NOT use servers here in the US. That was (as I'm sure you know) how the US government managed to bring down megaupload.

Oliver, ever see the movie "Girl Next Door"?

The question to ask yourself: "Is the Juice worth the Squeeze?"

You spend A LOT of time repairing links, re-uploading files, re-indexing pages. How much of your "clientele" is new folks coming in to download all the old stuff, and how much of it is "groupies" who pretty much grab the new stuff within a few days or weeks of your post?

I think you might find it easier to create an "archive" torrent every 6months or 1year. Splash that out there on a seed box for folks to grab the old files and stop worrying about updating links and re-uploading files. If a file host disappears, maybe you upload the past week's worth of work or so on the new file host. Worry about the rest when you create the HentaiRules Archive Torrent Vxxx.

Only you know how much "income" comes from which type of user. But this has to be at least the 10th time I've seen you scramble to re-upload, re-link, re-index, etc. It seems like perhaps it is much more of a headache than its worth. Your time is valuable, and with a growing family, you are going to find yourself pulled in even more directions. Instead of trying to re-invent the wheel and appease all the lobbyists, do what makes the most sense for you. I bet if you calculate the amount of time you spend doing all the repair work from maintaining this complex system of links and file hosts, you'll find that its a second job and it doesn't pay you as much as you think.

Also, like others have said. Don't expose yourself legally and simply do your best to share the common interest without becoming a target.

HurpDurp
Guest

Believe it or not, but a lot of the old things are downloaded. I only had like 2 files ever get deleted due to lack of downloads and all of the rest had at least 10 downloads.

Xenor
Guest

Yes, but how many of Oliver's old files are downloaded? If he doesn't include his large packs of his favorite artists, then its quite possible there is an easy curve of diminishing returns. Spending all day on the weekend repairing a bunch of links so that he earns a six-pack of beer to compensate him until the next time the links are broken doesn't really add up. Only he can answer that, unless he wants to share his accounting books :)

HurpDurp
Guest

Like I just said, they're downloaded enough so that the files aren't deleted. So, at the very least it's once a month. I can't tell you anymore than that since my accounts and files were deleted (or I raegquit in the cases of Wupload and Crocko), but they are most definitely downloaded.

Oliver doesn't even NEED to answer this since I did at least 12 months of the 2007-2008 reups.

Xenor
Guest

I'm not trying to argue that no one uses/downloads the file. Just saying that using the archaic method of uploading files, and then updating hyperlinks is very time consuming compared to restarting a torrent seed.

It's an option. Oliver wanted suggestions of alternatives. This is one of them.

So far, it seems like the only option approved of, is to do what he's always done. So, if he's happy with the amount of work it takes him (or those willing to volunteer their time for his beer money) to replace links and re-upload files, then this page serves no purpose.

HurpDurp
Guest

Except Oliver needs to pay for the website still. Which he won't be able to do using torrents as those don't have affiliate links <_<

Also, how long do you think hentai torrents last? Barely at all, and OIiver said earlier he has shitty bandwidth and Internet speeds so he won't be able to host the torrent longer than 20 seconds, and most people quit after they finish downloading (or at least seed to 1:1 ratio), the torrents will die 90 times FASTER than DDLs. And don't forget different strokes for different folks. What if you want that obscure NTR file that no one else downloaded? Then you're SOL because it won't seed at all.

Oh, and since you seem to have the wrong impression, the reuppers don't work for Oliver's beer money. The reuppers work for their own beer money. I made 200 dollars helping him reup files. ^_^ (I used it to buy a PS3 instead of beer tho :V)

What Oliver was really asking for is other websites to upload to that have affiliate programs, or if you'd be willing to pay him for premium if he starts his own cyberlocker. But considering his Cyberlocker would be designed exclusively for sharing copyrighted content, ICE would shut down that shit in under nine thousand seconds.

One finally note: You said "don't expose yourself legally"… but using a torrent exposes you. Anyone can see your IP address if they connect to you in the swarm. They shouldn't be able to do much legality-wise with an IP (at most they should only be able to DMCA your ISP), but the US Government doesn't seem to give a fuck about how the law works when it comes to copyright infringement anymore.

Oliver AKA The Admin

Oliver AKA The Admin

HurpDurp
Guest

How much did you make on it? And how long did you use it? I only had it for about 3-4 months :V

Xenor
Guest

Seedbox. Not his IP.

Archive the old stuff. Current stuff would still be DDL.

If the US Govt gets more serious about the work, then the re-uppers would be on the hook for all the content they uploaded. At the end of the day, sharing others' copyrighted work presents risk. Who are they more likely to go after? Those who made money in the process, or those who shared w/o profit. Only time will tell.

HurpDurp
Guest

Both? Sure is that woman who got sued for 1.5 million dollars for downloading 25 songs in here.

Also, Seedbox costs money. He would need a lot of bandwidth to boot, which costs even more money. Without affiliate links how is he supposed to pay for it?

I guess you don't care about going to jail though, huh? Because you seemed to have avoided anyone getting anyone's IP just by connecting to them.

Also, Oliver, I think the government may catch on if other people can't use it and the only links for it that show up on Google are on this website :<

Xenor
Guest

Um…you think you're safe at File Hosts? Why do you think they raided the servers? They're getting names, CC#s, IP addresses.

Of course the only safe way is to VPN. Once you do that, the only other thing that makes sense is saving yourself time (and thus money). By all means, if you think $200 is worth giving up several hours (or perhaps a few days) time to re-upload files, then that is your business. Archives of old files are available now, or will be soon enough.

HurpDurp
Guest

I don't recall saying that, but most hosts don't keep IP address records that long, especially for downloaders.

Oliver AKA The Admin
Admin

Well, if I don't have an affiliate program and clear DMCA respect, I'll be as clean as mediafire and rapidshare. My file host doesn't have to say "hentairules zip host wheeee", after all ;)

Anon
Guest

I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with your proposal to create archive torrents. How many times have you checked out an artist's related links? Now imagine half of those suddenly needed to be seeded to work properly. What sets hentairules apart from so many other sites is that it has a reputation for being reliable and having minimal broken links.

Xenor
Guest

That may be true, but what really makes the difference is the commentary, tags, and info he drops on each manga. On any given day, I can go to half a dozen sites to download the other mangas instead of waiting for DepositFiles to time out. The same is true down the road. Armed with Google, folks can track down the manga they want even if the link is broken.

There is nothing easier than launching uTorrent and clicking the "Play" button to begin seeding the torrent again. He can literally "repair all the links" in less than 10 seconds. A dozen or so faithful followers can help him keep the torrents rolling indefinately. And no, you don't have to download the whole massive torrent. Just pick the authors or the individual mangas you want….leave the rest in the peer group. Plus, he could also seed complete scans and tanks. He wouldn't have to worry about constantly updating/creating new torrents each time a chapter is released. Only use full, complete works to build the bi-annual torrent.

Nothing could be easier.

Here in Brazil, all the servers have been working well. As to paying for a host, if it is clear it will not be blocked/banned by FBI or whatever, all right!

Andrew___

Well, for me DepositFiles is working at 300Kb/s, so not a problem. I'd pay for the downloads, as I pay for my anime (5 bucks a month for access to a FTP server). And *please*, use something that accepts paypal. Torrents for me is more or less a no-go, the ISPs here where I live (Brazilian southern states) are using packet shaping and only during some hours of the night the things works with decent speeds.

My thoughts on pay for your services… You are not the only site to consider this option the demise of several filehosting sites have made a significant impact on the filesharing community and the option to self host files and get your users to subscribe for x dollars a month or donations = GB has popped up a few times. The reason most people I know have opted to get subscriptions to fileshare company’s is because they are not tied down to 1 site and can utilise their subscription on multiple sites essentially paying their 10usd a month or whatever and getting a pile of sites included and making it worth the cost. With the single site subscription or self hosting/premium method you actually gain very little, one such site is asking for 5usd a month – problem is my old account would of been able to service 5-6 sites (yours included) of varying content for the same price and of course i dont download 100% of all of the sites content like the person who hosts this particular site assumes. Even on your site I only download maybe 1 or 2 manga a month or more so the concept of subscribing specific to your site is completely wasted on me.

download restrictions – like only one download per hour – sounds OK for me; since every filehosting service has such restrictions for none paying downloaders.
torrents aren't OK, I think, because if someone needs older stuff they can't get it because nobody seeds…

Here's my own thoughts on this:

Company's doing the banning suddenly realize:

New companies are popping up to replace them, and that they're bleeding customers to the new competitors. They then start reversing their ban status, while taking a few extra measures to be sure that they "officially" don't know what's going on, and also have a good mechanism in place to immediately respond to reports of copyright violations.

That's where Megaupload may have gotten in trouble, other than being so damn blatant: They're alleged to not have responded promptly to requests to takedown copyrighted material.

The other day,I read this:

“TurboBit allows porn, but lolicon is considered child porn and they take legal measures against users uploading child porn.”

and the page “term of use” in Turbobit say:

“Please note: We will instantly block the accounts of those users who locate child pornography on our servers. We also will put all the information (IP-addresses, payment information, e-mail) about this trespassers to law-enforcement agencies by their request.”

I know that lolicon is very strange in this site, but I don’t know his criteria (what is a “children”) on hentai.

filepost, crocko (or easy-share), uploading, mediafire, 4shared, uploaded links are mostly good to go, some of them are probably deleted because nobody has downloaded them recently

I might be willing to pay for a zip service you set up. The only thing is I'd expect the downloads to be fast and cheap, like no more than 10-15 bucks for six months to a year since this is only for your site. You could also experiment with torrents; this would work especially well for your "Great Artists" assuming the site has enough traffic and people actually seed. This method already works beautifully for g.e.Hentai.

Xenor

I know, right. Torrents don't always die a quick death as we've been led to believe.

A couple of the large Fakku torrents are doing quite well.

Oliver AKA The Admin

It still relies on people leaving their computer running 24/7. Me, when I'm done with work, I turn off my computer. When I'm done with hentai, I turn off my computer. When i'm done watching movies, I turn off my computer. It may not look like that, but to me it makes all the difference in the world, the PC is just a commodity, not the heart of my home ;)

Nah, I think filelockers is still by far the very best there is, no shit.

What I don't oppose is someone creating a gigantic torrent, "all hentairules, 2008/2009/2010/2011 edition", something like that. But don't count on me for seeding, lol. I upload stuff at 130 kB/s max, it's not for me.

Lastly, paying filehosts pay me beer money, that's not making my blog a business, but for something on which I spend one hour and half per day eve though I'm a working man with a family doing what I do for the kicks and for the pleasure of helping people get great stuff, I think I deserve it. I wouldn't have it with torrents.
