I was disappointed in the end of Negima

I feel like a piece of my youth has died, the manga Mahou Sensei Negima, that I started reading 7 years ago, is finished and is now entirely translated. This gives me weird, eerie feelings…

I gathered here two Negima doujinshi, one brand new with a good mood and good feelings, in full-color, Colorful Mahora by Happy Water. And an other doujin reflecting my mixed feelings towards the end of the manga series, Astral Bout Ver 20, by Studio Triumph.

The Studio Triumph one shows Negi being mildly netorare’ed (“because it makes wine taste better”, lol) by showing him his slutty students not giving a fuck about him. Both works are brought to us by the kind Trinity Translations team :)

I have “mixed feelings” about the enf of Negima… On the one hand, there’s the glow of having followed a good series for such a long time. But on the other hand, there is (sorry fanboys and fangirls) :
– a crappy ending, full of unexplained surprises (aging ? Dad, how, where from, etc ? Details of the century plan ? Still not chosing a main partner since all girls are still magical girls ? And there’s more)
– and lots of questions left unanswered (why the fuck need Asuna anyway eventually, what of Negi’s mother, who was that brat of daddy’s master and the mage of the dawn/evening/beginning/something-like-that, and who’s his bloody frigging grrrl ?!?)
… That ending’s got ALL the looks of a botched job for me and I think the series deserved much better as an ending :(
If you also read it, don’t you think so ?

I hope you may at least like the drawings, they’re both nice in that regard :o

Ending was crap, you're right.
The best arcs were the Magic World and School Festival.
But the ending kills so much. I think the Author must feel that way too…

Ive also been reading Negima, and was also a big fan of Love Hina and I read though AI Love You. Granted, since I already own 30+ negima fraphic novels, I kinda want to read the ending when I finish actually buying the books. But if the ending is anything like the way you describe it, it doesnt suprise me all that much.

True, Hina and AI had closure in the love interest department, and Hina had decent closure in plot and story, but in each one Akamatsu left alot of openness to the ending (especially AI). And due to spoiler reasons that Im not going to bring up since im unsure how they will resolve, as much as I wanted a Negi X Asuna ending, I dont see it as… I guess vialble would be a good enough word. And with as much stress as he put on that romantic pairing thoughout the whole story, I felt that it just got wattered down too much toward the end of the magical world tournement arc with all the girls constantly falling for Negi. (I honestly believe in Ken Akamatsu's rose collered glasses world, not being an absolute assbag is the ULTIMATE PANTY DROPPER).

Also, I'm not supprised that he didn't pick one single partner, considering his dad had half a dozen permanent contracts hisself, I'm supprised he didn't just make a pactio with EVERY one of the girls and have his own little army.

As for the plot, my guess is that his ratings for Negima in the magizine that he is being published in are getting low after all these years and either he or the magizine decieded that it was time to end the series. More than likely he still had ideas and plot lines in his head, but they were too similar to what hes already done before so he couldn't get them cleared and organized in time to not jumble everything together at the end.

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to wait to read how it ends myself. I'm kinda curious what kind of series he'll do next. AI Love You was romance, comedy, and HEAVY GAG toward the end, while Love Hina was romance and comedy throughout with mild chunks of light battle. Being almost all battle with comedy sprinkled in for Negima was an interesting choice for him and I think he did a really good job of developing the world and its characters.

Dunno where you are, so I'll add a sort of spoiler tag of sorts here.

If you haven't made it to the magical world yet, you might not want to read this:

Asuna is Negi's aunt or something. She has the same last name as his mother, so they're obviously related somehow (MAL's bio says she's the cousin of his mother, but I thought she was her sister, so I dunno).

Also, she's a princess and technically speaking Negi is a prince (because his mother was a queen).

They do get married in Negima?! Neo however.

Yes I have also bought all the Negima books from Tanoshimi/DelRey/Kodansha since the beginning and we're up to Vol 33 or so but found the scanlations sometime last year so I started reading ahead (still buying the books of course) and had high hopes for this series. The Anime however didnt fill me with confidence on a good ending because that had a hastily drawn-up ending plot that just didnt make sense with the way the story was building in the previous episodes – it just looked like they pulled the plug on it and gave him one or two episodes to wrap it up

(contd) Seems to me like this is what has happened with the Manga too unfortunately =/ My guess is he had some pretty convoluted ideas for the story which just got too much for the editors to sign off with, that coupled with an ageing audience meant he had to either adapt the story or kill it off, and looks like he was forced to choose the latter sadly. As infuriating it is to not have answers to certain questions I think it's his way to show that there was much more life in the series but he hasnt been given the opportunity to tell it the way he wants to. Given how abruptly he ties up the loose ends that ARE explained or shown to be concluded in the final 3 chapters, I would say its his way of showing that Negima has been given a premature end – there is no hiding that (to me at least) this is not how he was going to end it and the final page is more like an apology with thanks than anything else…
C'est la vie…

The ending per se was, lets say good, but it skips like 10 tanks of history… some of it you can infer (is that the word in english?) but yeah, it was crap…

I do espect an answer about the mother, an importan point and character that I loved of the manga.

I think the ending was a bit too disappointing. What I really want to know is what came upon his mother and who Negi likes

Yeah, the ending for Negima sucked.

All I wanted to know was WHO THE FUCK WAS CHAO'S MOTHER and it wasn't even answered! Pissed me the hell off! BEEN WAITING SINCE 2009 FOR THAT SHIT!

Answering some of your questions: They aged because Ken skipped years at times, first skipping 130, then going back 130, then going forward 7 years. Yeah, it's a bit confusing. Anyway, in the last chapter they are 7-8 years older.

Actually, he found his dad in chapter 334, on page 12… Like 2 seconds after him and Asuna murdered him. That's right! Nagi was the final boss! Mage of the Beginning/Life-Maker! What a plot twist! Apparently over the course of those 8 years, somehow Konoka was able to bring him back to life.

Not sure what happened to Negi's mom (Arika Anarchia Entheofushia), she was supposedly killed 18 years ago (executed), but that can't be possible as Negi is only ten years old for the majority of the story. I suspect his cousin (Nekane) is actually his mother, but that's just me.

Not sure what your other questions are asking :V

@Oliver
The title should be "Colorful Mahora!" not "Colorful Trouble." It could be that mahora means trouble, so no need to change the title if it is. It'd be nice if somebody with knowledge in Japanese can confirm, but I seriously doubt that mahora means trouble.

Oliver it was infered that one of the girls went to the village and healed the "Stone Curse" i don't have it up in front on at the moment. That was the only way I read it as. I read it three times going WTF just happened?

Yeah, Konoka fixed it after studying for like 7-8 years.

Also, it's not "inferred" as Nagi clearly says so himself on page 5.

I stopped paying attention to Negima past volume 21; where near-everyone went to Wales and it turned into Narubleach Z. And even then: It was basically Love Hina with Keitaro being 10-years-old and Akamatsu pulling out all the stops with the number of girls.

I HATED Love Hina because Akamatsu created a male protagonist "everyone can relate to;" a living "punching bag" for the female characters herein. (Yeah. Thanks for reminding me of how horrible my days in public school were.)

And Negima? I guess I've been a fool for believing that this is better than Love Hina. Not anymore.

When I was in my local comic shop I mention Negima! seemingly ending with so many unanswered questions. He told me that the last volume of Negima! was basically just the end of Negi's storyline but that the manga would still continue but presumably from a different POV to keep working on the remaining plot threads.

Isn't that just a translation of something he said on Twitter? "I certainly have no intention of retiring, so look forward to my next work or sequel"? He didn't specifically state "Negima", so it could be any of his other projects.

Also > Getting a sequel.
> The original was forced to end by the editors
Haha, wut.

He said in his facebook & twitter that the damn manga is not discontinued because of his editor. That cursed man ended his manga by himself and that's why people are raging :<

I saw on his Facebook saying it was canceled because of editors, so I dunno lol.

Either way:

> Getting a sequel.
> The original was forced to end by the author
Haha, wut.

This makes it even LESS likely now.

No plot, not nothing, it was like "here's the problem… but hey we can live happily ever after (7 years later)" really disappointing…. I definitely have LOVE HINA as my all time favorite.
