Their names are tripcodes from 4chan, Oliver. Some people, like myself, put more effort into it to generate a tripcode (aka tripfag) that actually has coherency in it. Others just use whatever random generation comes up with their password of choice.

I haven't read it all yet, but already I can say, there's something about it that makes it stand out. It's the characters' behavior, like you said, Oliver. They're super awkward, embarrassed, and trying to adapt to a ridiculous situation.
That's pretty much how people WOULD behave in real life, if faced with such a crazy setting.
For some reason I'm reminded of Takemura Sesshu's "Idling in the Heat" doujin, despite the fact that the setting and behavior are radically different. Weird…

Ah ah! Glad to see this manga end up here ^^ I'm the French anon who translate the two first chapter from French to English, it really surprised me that the manga end up translated directly from japanese to French, it's usually from English to french.
And as people were really looking for the translation "right naow!", I did it in few day, but as my english isn't perfect, it really wasn't a good translation at all, i had to let some note for people to correct me.
But It was fun to do, and even more to look how goes the rest of the translation, one guy also translate it from Chinese to English, to see if the Jap to French translation was good or not, because we couldn't find the raw japanese anywere at the time!
Was great to see a lot of people working, and helping each other on this spontaneously :-)
