The absolute best western comic I know, for both the lesbian and bondage sides of it. An absolute recommendation from me.

There used to be a time I thought bondage was uncool. Hentai and comics made me change my mind, it actually deserves great respect and it’s pretty darn cool in itself.
First things first, my thanks are for ParacetJunkie, who reminded me of the Sunstone Series, that I had only known at its very beginning three years ago.
And of course, huge praise to Shiniez, the artist who draws Sunstone!!
Shiniez has a lively DeviantArt page with lots of bonuses, and he also sells printed copies of his books, the volume Three’s preorder period just started BTW…

Sunstone is “sensible” BDSM , we follow two women who are into bondage, and the bunch of people around them. They are “human” persons, not caricatural or oversimplified for cartoon reasons. They have weaknesses, strengths, aspirations, it’s easy to partially identify with them, to love them, and there are several moments when I laughed. Bondage is seen “intellectually”, as a relationship of trust, where the control comes from top and bottom… that is so interesting!
Look, if I recommend a BDSM work, chances are you can more or less know what not to expect : I think this is REALLY worth discovering :)

As for the drawings : RHAYUMMOAR! Just a warning, this isn’t hardcore, it should be categorized as “ecchi”, there are no visible genitalia – but I wouldn’t care about that last detail, in the present situation. The art is among the most splendid pieces of drawn western comic I ever saw.

If you liked this, then – should you still not know these – I’ll VERY strongly recommend you Maka Maka (for the lesbian side, this is the GREATEST lesbian work I EVER read) and, on the BDSM side, Nana To Kaoru and Escape Creator.

Complete Pictures Galleries:
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3,
Chapter 4, Chapter 5 (still ongoing)
this time, rather than host myself the images, I give you links to Shiniez’s own gallery pages, it’s simpler for you, my gallery system sucks at handling very high res images correctly, and it’s another chance for you to check Shinez’s great DA page, all the bonuses, and perhaps consider purchasing his printed hardcopies, an indie creator deserves all the help he can receive

Download the Free Hentai Manga in a Zip file

(Mind you, “104” pictures doesn’t cover it, each picture is SUPER LONG, it’s less a picture than a tower of pictures.)

Or you can also use the Alternative :

I also thought that bondage was bad, but then I read Nana To Kaoru and I changed my opinion. However, if it goes too far then it's still bad.

While everyone's entitled to their opinions, and by no means do I want any of this to come across as preachy, I think that this is a bit of a, misconception? I don't think that's the right word, I'm really bad at putting things into words so apologies for that.

I've been interested in bondage, bdsm, more or less the works, ever since I was pretty young. I can't really remember my first exposure to it, but I was definitely still a child. I've been very loosely involved in my local scenes(in and around the NYC area, mostly) since my late teenage years, though I'm rather introverted and I keep to myself or to my partners when I have them. While I can only speak for myself and those who have expressly shared the same view, there is no such thing as "going so far it's bad". We are all very different people, and I often associate those involved in kink/fetish/bdsm to gamers. There are too many genres of games, and too many individual examples of those genres for anyone to find someone they have exactly the same tastes as. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with liking different genres or having differing opinions in regards to the games in those genres, it just means people have different tastes.

Kink is much the same, and we often talk about them in terms of limits. Soft and hard limits are things you either won't do under normal circumstances, or things you won't do under any circumstances, to put it very simply. Any kind of relationship involving kink, whether it's an ongoing romantic one or a single instance of play, revolves around the mutual respect and communication of those involved. For example, any kind of piercing or needle play for me is a hard limit, I just can't do it and don't want anything to do with it personally. I have associates and a friend or two, however, who do, and they find safe and sane ways to fill that need in their lives.

"Going too far" can be taken, I presume, to mean non-consensual actions, or causing lasting physical harm or psychological trauma. Those are really, really bad things, but they have nothing to do with bondage or kink specifically, that's a failing of the person causing the harm and can happen even in "vanilla" relationships. Domestic abuse, for example, is a well known case.

Sorry to have gotten all serious in an HR comments thread, but this is definitely a topic I care a lot about, and encourage everyone if it's within their comfort zone to do some research into the reality of. Personally I'm a massive fan of Stjepan's(shiniez, author of Sunstone) and have bought all of the print versions on day one. It's probably the one fictional work I point people towards most when I have trouble explaining some of the realities of what a kink-friendly life is like. I'm also very fond of Nana to Kaoru(we need to get out of the current arc, it's killing me!), but both Nana to Kaoru and Sunstone are still very much fictionalized versions of reality. Real life is much more about talking things out, some people even draft contracts to be sure everyone's on the same page, subs are almost always "in control" of a situation. Things like aftercare and subdrop are major parts of the lifestyle that really don't get mentioned at all in fictional works.

tl;dr: While some people can abuse others, it's just that, a case of abuse. Safe, sane and consensual kink in that sense cannot go "too far". Of course, everyone is entitled to their beliefs and feelings on the subject, and I apologize for going on for so long(even though I doubt people will read this).

ps: If anyone does want to learn more, or at least poke more at the reality side of things, but doesn't know where to look, I've subscribed to this comment section, so I'll try to check back on any posts.

Your comment reassures me, Sunstone is "real" in that regard, the relationships between the people practicing bondage.

Sure, the amazing quality of the drawings makes the popularity of the series, but the deep insight it gives us non-bondagers into you guys' own kink is what makes Sunstone stand out and worth reading, really.

I don't have these kinds of fetishes (even with sex, I'm all for vanilla, if anything I'd be a horny teddy bear in bed, expecting just the same, hugs and sex), but before hentai works like Nana To kaoru or Escape Creator, before Sunstone (as far as "real world outside of Japan" goes), I feel sorry I had such a wrong view of the thing.

There are not many genres that I can respect like that, haha ^^

In that regard, I think that Sunstone is the most "real" fictional story centered around bdsm I've encountered so far. It's very much about the people, the mutual respect and honestly even the more recent chapters the emotional toll it can take on both partners is a very real thing. That said there's still a lot Sunstone doesn't get completely accurate, but it does so for the sake of pacing and storytelling and for that I have no problems with it.

I'm really always glad to see people be a little more, open might be the right word to use. I've spent a lot of time working with people who were scared to tell their partners about their kinks, who lost relationships because they brought stuff like that up; even when it was fairly tame. It can be really difficult, psychologically, for people who are already self-conscious or afraid of "society" and how they'd react to them to see that kind of negative reinforcement.

Most importantly, though. I want to really make it clear that I'm not trying to attack or harp on anyone. We're all different, we have different needs and desires and just as much we have different lives and upbringings. I was fortunate enough(in a sense) to be both interested and exposed to kink at an early age, and that my first girlfriend was even more outgoing about it than I was. That's super lucky and I will never take that for granted. A lot of people aren't interested, and don't get exposed in any way outside of media that negatively reinforces their view of it (uncaring, selfish, abusive, one-sided, immoral, etc.) Lastly, I just really want everyone to know this(even some people who are kink friendly who seem to forget this); There is nothing wrong with you. Whoever you are, whatever you like, from the most deviant of desires to the most innocent and tame of vanillas. There is absolutely nothing wrong with anyone for simply being themselves. I think what a lot of us who are more outspoken from the kink world really just want is to make things a bit more accepting across the board. Trust me I've definitely seen some people into bondage and more who started to look down on vanillas for "not getting it" and that's absolutely not cool.

Either way, I've rambled on really long again. Thanks for sticking with me this far, anyone who has.

The artist also goes by Nebezial online – that might be a separate name for the non kinky stuff though. He also has artist duties on the very excellent (imo) Rat Queens!

Yes and no. He jokes about it being his secret identity all the time, but at this point people are well aware of his "dual nature" and Stjepan Sejic is one of my favorite Image comics artist of all time. He's done tons of stuff and I feel like Image seems to be pretty okay with all his work, erotic and not. If anyone is interested, they should totally check him out. He's done runs of Witchblade, The Darkness, Ravine is his creator owned series and Death Vigil is his newest. All great stuff.

they’ve actually put the first volume of this into print (by IMAGE and TOP COW) and the preface or afterward i remember as being really heartfelt. where the artist, Stjepan Šejić had become wildly disconnected/dissatisfied with all the mainstream comic book work he was doing. his wife told him to make up a name and post some “fun” work on Deviant art… and that’s how he made sunstone. love the art and character development.

but since it is now being published, you might want to be leery of sharing it or offer a link to buy it in hard copy… and worthy of getting a copy for your shelf.

and some of his western comic work for Witchblade and Darkness is unbelievably stunning and detailed.

Well, it's still all available, for free, on Deviantart – Oliver's repack just saves people the stress of navigating the (admittedly less-than-perfect) Deviantart galleries, as well as saving the trouble of having to make a Deviantart account to view all the images.

I happened along 'Sunstone' , seems like a long time ago to me, when I was bored and 'Googled' a series of terms looking for artworks to use as inspiration for a tattoo when I was doing them in Second Life for someone that wanted a 'BDSM' inspired tattoo for their character. That said I liked it then though it was only one chapter and to me was more of a insight to the beginning some may experience when getting into the bdsm side of 'kink, that was said for lack of a better way of putting my thoughts to words forgive it is not clear or paints the wrong picture. I have only dabbled into this kink and do not consider myself in any way an expert but from my dabbling it is true that some will use a 'key' / 'safe' word for safety and limit reasons. If one is to do any kind of search on the net you will, like it says in the story, will come across porn that exaggerates the kink or to those that take it beyond reality and safety. This to me is a look into one person, possibly more than one, views possibly personal or a voyeur's look into this kink. I look forward to seeing more of this story line as I like it as does my girlfriend who read it after I did

Wow, Oliver. Seriously thank you for letting me discover this story.

It's much tamer than most of the mangas you usually share; however the art is awesome and the story is just so realistic. Bit too "pathos" sometimes, and LOTS of text, but you get really caught up.

Hi Oliver,

maybe i’m a bite late, but i really like Sunstone (i’m reading chapter 4 right now^^). I’m also not a huge fan of bdsm, but i really respect the relationship betwenn Ally and Lisa.

I will look if i can still find a physical copy., because i really want one^^.

I hope that you will also share different/other stuff in the future (except hentai). The chance that i would have found sunstone on my own is pretty small.

The author, Stejpan Sejic, has a lot of physical versions of his works available on Amazon and similar sites. Right now the first three volumes of Sunstone are available in updated versions, redrawn and given a polishing on the text. Volume 4 will be out in January of 2016, and I would really recommend them. Both to support the author, as well as because they're really a lot nicer than the web versions, and have a lot of bonus material.

thx for your advice DrakeyB. I found them all. In Germany, they also sell a bigger, casebounded and transated edition, but at the moment only Vol.1 is available and i don't know if they screwed up with the translation.
