Might I suggest instead of just using download zip files, make a DownThemAll! AntiContainer plug-in, for the Firefox add on, downthemall! And the anti-container DownThemAll! Add-ons. To work with your complete picture Hentairules.net Image Galleries index page's. On say the thumbnail setting, or something. So instead of having to host zip files. Of all the posts, you just put up your normal gallery. People can download the original size pictures files, from just the thumbnail page. By pressing one button. You will save time when trying to download the pictures, and saves you the time from having to make zip files of everything. Makes everyone's life easier. So downloading something that's 191 pages, inside your picture gallery. I would click page 1 of the index. Then hit down them all for that tab, then hit page 2, do the same thing, and that I would've downloaded 191 pictures. So much time saved. No need to host stuff. Everybody's life is better. Please do this. This would be awesome, and maybe just maybe make your life a lot better as far as having to manage this website.
I see several unescapable issues:
– Firefox accounts for something like 35-40% of the visitors only
– Many less of these users have Down Them All
– Many less of those DTA owners would understand how to do your thing, or would be ready to do so
– My galleries don't host original-size images (reduction cost: bandwidth divided by 3 in average) and recompressing is an automated rule required by the galleries system to have all images of the same genre (meaning you're served near-identical images but not actual-identical, I wouldn't want to serve inferior versions by default). Multiplying the bandwidth usage is, server-admin side, a very unwise choice
– The process you describe would require additional CPU and hard disk usage for every single new download by someone. This added CPU load would be EXTREMELY unwise (server average load: 3.5/6, with enough peaks above the max to not want to increase CPU usage), while the added hard disk time would, even by a margin, reduce the life span of my server's hard disks
– You're also adding a new burden of my shoulders, that of being responsible for a new technical solution to be able to work forever, while I am not in control of it and only partly would be able to understand how it works
All of it to say: it's a no, but I took enough time to seriously take your suggestion into consideration, not just a "fuck no lol".
