Updates on the gigatorrent :)
Howdy everyone!
Daily activities are keeping me busy in this new year, a “surprise motherfucker!” sudden hard disk death brought some spice, but I’m still doing my best to get the gigatorrent out, it will soon be ready. Sorry for the lack of fresh shares (today again, I’m using shares I prepared in advance for busy times), hopefully tomorrow will be more peaceful, I have some tanks to share
That said, I’ll echo the post I made in the end of December, I need seedboxing help
I have two solid contacts so far, two fiber helpers, and one potential third seedbox but the person who contacted me about it used a disposable email addy that, I fear, may have expired already.
Please, those of you who contacted me and to whom I replied yesterday, could you come back to talk and get the thing rolling?
Or if you have a seedbox (with a bit less than 500 GB of space available) and are willing to help with the initial burst, you’re more than welcome to contact me, on oliver [ @ ] hentairules.net
Will the naming convention be the same as the previous Gigatorrent? ie. can I just set the source for the new one same as the old one and already have ~422Gb done?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: yes, but when there are changes it will cause (a) a download of something new and (b) a situation of competing near-duplicates.
You may find yourself with two versions of a manga, the previous one and a new one that is, say, uncensored.
Or you may find one manga by a mangaka in the root of the mangas location , and discover there is now in the mangas root location a folder named after that mangaka and, inside that folder, several mangas by this mangaka, including the one that still is – for you – in the root of your partition.
Nothing big, simply, you’ll find yourself with a few additional gigabytes.
Ah, shoot, I forgot something: I manually rename the zips/folders that are far fucking too long, in prevision for the people who download it in a sub-sub-sub-subfolder, to prevent file system problems with excessive path length. For that, I use a program called “Too Long Path Finder” that tells me which files and directories are above a manually selected total path length, and then decide what to do with them.
I have to do it by hand, it requires human arbitration (“how much must I crop, from where, hmmmm…”), it can’t be automated, so I am certain the renaming will be different, even marginally, from how it was made before.
That means that for something like 30-40 folders and/or zips, there will be changes that will be probably slightly different from the previous version of the torrent. Impossible to avoid it, sorry about that :/ (But it will amount for less than 1% of the total volume, to think about it like that)
Seems fair enough
Another curious question, do you purge the torrent for previous versions or incomplete versions of files? Or is the workload required for that simply too much(completely understandable if it is)?
For example I’ve noticed in the 2015 Gigatorrent that you have a complete version & a c9-11 version of Yasui Riosuke’s Bust to Bust as well as a full version & a c9-12 version of his Pink Shock.
Also, would it be possible/feasible to separate the megapacks into their separate constituent volumes again?
“Do you purge the torrent for previous versions or incomplete versions of files?”
I don’t have a working method to find and get rid of obsolete incomplete versions, unfortunately, so I frequently leave some behind. I get rid of as many as I can, but I leave too many behind, it’s true. I’ll remove the ones you mentioned, thanks for this, huhu
“Also, would it be possible/feasible to separate the megapacks into their separate constituent volumes again?”
You mean a yearly edition update? It’s something I’ll be able to make in 2017 MAYBE – not sure it’s worth the added work or not sure it offers the net gains – but not for the previous years, matters of sorting, merging and restoring made it impossible.
Aight, I’ll try to compile a list sometime later today or tomorrow of the ones I’ve noticed so far, there were a few
Would you prefer I post it here as a reply or compile it into an excel/text file or smth?
What I mean about the megapacks is to unpack(for the purpose of the gigatorrent only) for example the 1.6Gb “Black_Dog_COMPLETE_ENGLISH_PACK_(2014-07-06)_(www.hentairules.net).zip” and instead have each of the 47 or so constituent folders as their own zip in the gigatorrent.
Hey Oliver. I just want to ask, can you preserve some of those titles that can no longer be distributed here due to reasons(*looks at Wani).
It’s the reason why I dl the gigatorrent is for very old archives that have been uploaded for so long and some places either they have it, but corrupt. Or the file is no longer available due to inactivity.
Thanks again!
I adore Gunma Kisaragi Work, can we have it again at torrent? *sad
Nah, I’m sorry. In an email asking for contents to be removed, I received the specific request to not add them to the torrent either.
No choice around it.
But, well, the internet is a very wide thing, torrents included, I can’t be more specific, but I’m confident you’ll get the idea…
Any chance of a torrent for just 2016 files? Os some kind of file structure where we could easily pick them out?
*OR some kind
I know you’re busy, but any chance of a possible ETA? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
hello did you found a solution for the gigatorrent? maybe just a 2016 update may be lighter to seed..
Sine, it’s already april. Will you do it on 31/12/2017 ?
I know that seeding this is a real problem, but I’m sure you could get a couple hundred volunteers, and if you add them a dozen or so at a time over three weeks we could get this seeded. That would especially be true if at least some people were seeding from the previous version.
