Hansel & Gretel and “le Petit Poucet” (which is the character Oliver is referring to) are different.

About that le Petit Poucet, the English name is Hop o’ My Thumb. Its a story about a tiny person, much like Thumbelina and Tom Thumb. More info at:

Actually, the author of hatsu inu is not named Inu, he goes by the name Anfang Hund.
