hey buddeh, you MAY or may not enjoy this recommendation for a quicky manga, but here’s a few you should check out.

Anything by this man (skyhigh and jiraishin are awsome)

http://www.onemanga.com/directory/takahashi-tsutomu/

and this one, which is a slice of life about manga authors (it’s REALLY good for me ^_^)

Well, after reading your description of this manga, I can’t stop noticing that it fits pretty much with the description for Kareshi Kanoujo no Jijou (A.K.A. Karekano). Well, I’ll read this one, absolutelly. Thanks for your suggestion.

No official (english) publication of the series (a major point of sadness on my part), but all the chapters have been scanslated by one group or another. I would put up where I found it, but the site has since gone down.

YKK is a really awesome manga. The tranquility it shows is unbelievable.
for those interested in it, onemanga has it, and the scanlators already finished this manga.

For those wanting to give a shot at the slice-of-life genre, try “Yotsuba to!”. It’s not serious like YKK (it’s actually more on the comedy side), but still it gets the whole “let’s talk about life” mood

There’s a bunch of good (and bad) manga there in onemanga, for all tastes. The tags system used there is a bit simple in my opinion, but the descriptions are usually enough to decide if one wants to read the manga or not.

some recomendations (trying to avoid the DBZ-like): bartender, claymore, historie, mysterious girlfriend X, nodame cantabile, skip beat, dragon half, Ludwig Kakumei, Othello, Red Lion, Spice and Wolf.

and there’s the dragon ball manga, if you’re still interested =P

For the french scanlation, you can find this manga at http://www.iscariote.org, the project has been finished for a while.

I’ve just finished reading. And I felt surprisingly refreshed. I liked the peacefulness and the carefree attitude of Alpha, I felt sad that humanity is basically disappearing and that all of the robots will basically end up alone.
Though it avoids all the technical details I wanted to know what is the purpose of the orbital ship?

@itsit: Add Hatsukoi Unlimited and No-Bra to your list, they are pretty interesting stuff. Shonan Gummi is not too bad too.

I highly recommend Liar Game. It fills the void Death Note left before Death Note went all weird near the end.

I love this manga. Unfortunately, the original scanlator’s site, http://ykk.misago.org/, is gone now. :( It had zip archives of each book, but I fell behind in collecting…

Peaceful and contemplative, yes, it’s really worth reading. I can’t say that i am different since i read it, but i don’t remember ever reading another manga like that. Give it a try !

Yotsuba to& is really good too, kawai and hilarious. Even its hentai version, [House of Karsea]Pretty Neighbor, 220p, kicks ass. But there’s a chapter of loli, so Oliver will not share it fully.

hmm try

http://crazytje.be/Manga/225

there are zip’ed files for each tome (14 all)

also if possible, try to upload it to one of the sharing servers, so it wont be lost again.

also there’s a torrent at http://btjunkie.org/ under that name

Wow. Just wow. Read it all in one sitting and it has been moving. Only thing that comes even close in my mind is Kino’s Travels. The persective of humanity after a cataclysm/war that would make a situation like that possible and the determination to live even in face of the inevitable. I just wish there would have been more involved content with Migaro/swamp fishlady.

I’d also recommend Bokurano, but only the manga… It really changes your views in certains aspects of the world…

And some other good pieces in onemanga, as bitter virgin, or perhaps monster and 20th century boys

Last place I expected a YKK recommendation to pop up, but thanks for spreading the word about this beautiful and calm series. If you enjoyed YKK you might also enjoy Aria and Aqua. This trio is along with Yotsubato! are the best that the slice of life genre has to offer.

Wow. I have always tried to avoid making comments the these hentai sites… but since you posted about a manga I have loved for a long time… I just had to post. If your interested in the author’s other work… there is Kabu no Isaki and Positon (sadly there isn’t much there…)

http://www.cafealpha.org/ is the site that brought us the last 20 chapters of YKK…

Oh, and if you want to know how slow that story really was… it took 12 years to write YKK.

+ 1 Strife and Treast : If you liked YKK, you HAVE TO read Position (by the same mangaka) and Aqua (another author)

HaHahaha!!
Man, I don’t belive it, I want to share my personal experience reading this manga.
I’d never been so hooked with a manga before, I can tell you, I read it complete in one nigth.
When I finished it was 1:30 am, but, I feel a sensation of calm and peace so immense that I even went out and sat in the patio for at least another hour just watching the sky and the stars and thinking that life is not that bad after all.
Maybe one of these days I’ll go on a journey to find Alpha Cafe.
:)

Hahaha, ever since the day I began reading it, YKK has been my favorite manga by a leaps and bounds. It’s the one thing I am certain of.

If you ever feel like discussing it or reading other discussions on YKK, head over to http://www.pander.us/ykk . It’s a very slow moving forum, but it’s a lovely place to be.
