I’m having a family member coming home tonight, I know she’s bound to use my computer for an hour to enjoy a bit of a connexion in the middle of a trip, and… to my horror… my firefox is used to browse so much porn that, whatever letter you type in the URL bar, it will instantly start suggesting porn websites as soon as you start typing something >_<

I’d like to be able to maintain a bit of a respectable appearance in front of a stern elderly family member, so please, does ANYBODY know a way to make firefox forget the URL-keyboard associations for when we start writing an URL in the adress bar ?

My parent is computer-friendly and won’t fall for a cheap trick like “Hm ? Firefox, what is it ? Sorry I use IE6” (I promoted firefox to her some time ago), so I need to find a way to wipe that info off my firefox very fast :D I already tried making firefox forget all personal traces (control-shift-suppr, select everything, for all time), but that didn’t stop firefox from suggesting my usual porn sites v_v

Thanks if you can help with a solution ! :o

Update : yo, case solved, thanks a lot for the great replies, now I’m safe :D

Why don’t you just create a “guest” session on your computer ?

Your Firefox informations must apply only to one user, not to everybody using the computer.

I haven’t had that situation, so my suggestion may not work. I think you have to change your preferences.

At the top, go to Tools > Options and search 4 the Security and advanced options (I think those r the names in english, my browser is in spanish), U should be able to change ur config from there.
Hope this helps.

Try this method if you want to erase the previous histories and such completely. Open firefox -> Tools -> Clear Recent History -> and select time range as everything and also select browsing and download history as well as Form & search history.

u just want to get rid of ur browsing history right>?

Tools-> Clear History
on the downside,if u dun bookmark the sites u visited u’ll need some way to remember the URLs.

additionally,i think firefox can specifically delete search histories through the same steps, but i’ve never done that so i’m not sure :(

step 1:

Tools > options > privacy tab > click “clear recent history” > Time range: Everything > press clear

step 2:

Tools > options > privacy tab > click “remove individual cookies” > click “remove all cookies

Try this: Tools menu, Options, Privacy tab. There is a check box there for ‘Remember what I entered in forms and the search bar’ Failing that I’d just have to say nuking your history would be the way to go. Good luck.

PS: If you dont want any record of your online affairs, use the private browsing mode.

Create a seperate profile for firefox…
http://www.borngeek.com/firefox/profile-tutorial/

I create a firefox shortcut that links to a secondary profile which is a specific short cut in one of my partitions (tucked away somewhere). Thats where I do “all” my internets.

All the other shortcuts (like the shortcuts in desktop, quick launch..etc) point straight to the default one, which is for clean viewing.

PS. you cant have two different firefox profiles on at the same time.secondary one

You can use the EasyCleaner too. This tool is very good to kill all your information, as the web info, as the computer trash.
I Hope had helped. ^^

You’ve two Chances.
1. If you use the Firefox Version 3.5 or higher you can start the Private Mode (in Tools). Then the Firefox will never save any Cookies or History.

2. You can go in the Firefox-Configuration and switch off the Autocomplete-Function. Write about:config in the URL-Bar. Confirm the Security-Question. Then search the line “browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled” and change Setting from true to false with doubleclick.

I hope I could help you.

Here’s a web site which tells you how to disable the “smart” bar in firefox ;) :

I hope this is what you’re looking for…

try this if you want to totally remove your form dropdowns.. (totally reversible)

go to your urlbar then type about:config then enter

promise that you’ll be careful (LOL)

and just set this one config to false

browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled
(use the filter)

and with that your urlbar will no longer drop down everytime you type a letter. =D

What abount “Clear private data”?
You can save your bookmarks (export them) before you do that, and later on import them again …

You can make a extra (operating system) account like “guests” and install a new firefox etc there and log in to it. Much safer and it protects all your private data.

download this:

cccleaner. It will autmatically clean up all your registry entry/history on FF and more ,very useful :)

1. In URL bar type : ‘About:config’ (without quotation marks)
2. Click “I’ll be carefull, I promise” (LOL!)

You are now in advanced options of FF, a config of sorts.

3. Find browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped and set it to True
4. Find browser.urlbar.maxRichResults and set it to 0

Voila, “I know better than you where you want to go” smart bar is now “I am mindless adress bar” bar (like it damn should be !)

For even more detailed explanation with pics :
http://www.pcmech.com/article/firefox-3-disable-the-smart-location-bar-sort-of/

For additional tweaking :
http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2008/06/9-tweaks-for-firefox-3s-location-bar/

P.S. : C’mon, Oliver, simple googling would have discovered this. :D :D :D

Cntrl + Shift + supr
click all the tabs and then clean data.
It will erase all the data that is stored in the profile.
If there is still something then you can go to
Start -> All Programs -> Accesories -> Sistem Tools -> Disk Cleanup
That erase and clean all the temporal data.
Good luck

Tools > Options > Privacy

Bottom where it says location bar, when using the location bar, suggest:

switch whatever it says, probably says “history and bookmarks” change it to nothing, now whenever you type something into the location bar it won’t suggest anything.

Well, the only reason your porn popups in the awesome bar © is because they’re listed under your favorites/bookmarks. Just back those up and delete them. Then your history with those sites. Problem solved.

Hi just go:

Extras\Options\Security(something like that)

There should be something like Private Data go there to Options and tick all boxes. Then click the button beelow which says clean or delete (dk)

If you want to make sure that there are NO traces left Look above and click show cookies delete them. Your Firefox is now as if you installed it expect you still have your favorites.

Push

CTRL + SHIFT + DELETE

Then select the time range to delete as “everything.” Then check all the boxes of the little details you want deleted and everything you wanted done should be done.

lol i think the guess login account would be the fastest, however like everyone suggests clear your history and caches, but also delete your bookmarks, otherwise just smile and bare the “i see looks” you get XD

Firefox displays your favorites in the url suggestion box, so unless your gonna delete your porn from your favorites your boned. if its not the case with the favorites simply go to tools > options > click the privacy tab at the top > under private data at the bottom click settings > check all boxes, click ok > then simply clear the private data.

I honestly just suggest updating to the most recent version of Firefox. In there you can either use “Private Browsing” under the “Tools” menu. Or if you already have questionable stuff in there you can either, hit “Tools” then “Clear Recent History” and you can suggest the last few hours or your entire history, or, if you know the specific sites you can open your “History” select “show all history” and search for the specific sites, right click on them and select “forget about this site”.

This way you get rid of the pr0n without having the suspiciously empty history. Not to mention you get to keep the random “non pr0n” sites that you wander to and want to check again. Hope that helps!

The best way is to create another profile. Your default one is the dirty one at the moment. So create a clean profile by using:

exit firefox and type in run:
firefox.exe -ProfileManager

create the clean profile and give it an innocent name.

Now go to all your firefox shortcuts on your desktop/quicklaunch/start menu
replace the target to:

“C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” -p profile-name

replace “profile-name” with the name of the innocent profile, without the brackets.

so now when you click the shortcut it will only open up the new profile which has zero trace of porn.

Glad you got it solved. 44 comments in two days is pretty amusing. I suspect nearly everyone who searches hentai has perfected how to keep their brower G-rated, me included :D.

LOL. I don’t make any great effort to conceal pornographic content or habits on my computer. Everyone knows what I do.

For my nephew (10), I don’t let him use my computer unless I’m in the room with him. Eventually, I’ll just have this laptop be my guest machine after I set up the HTPC.

I agree, CCleaner is awesome utility.

However, CTRL+SHIFT+DEL as stated by the TOOLS hotkey should do the trick.

I suggest that u make another user account in ur computer and put a password on ur account that have porn sites. Ur parents could just log-in as guests. That solved my problem because when I opened firefox on the fresh new account the porn links are gone including hentairules. :) Well, that’s my own idea, I don’t know if it works for u.
