Chilhood friend sounds more like a recurring theme in mangas or ecchi anime … and is a theme to me is tired (so over-exploited). I would like the author has something more original in the future
Be that as it may though, even though the childhood friend theme is overused per se, it's probably one of the safest bet a manga author can pull off. Given the page limit ( 16-20 pages per story for hentai manga), it's probably better to write something between youngsters who have been with each other since forever and more or less harbored feelings for the other one rather than grouping strangers together and forcing them to have sex. It's something really near to incest as the characters are normally as close as siblings but stripped out the forbidden love elements, thus IMO being much more receivable and acceptable, considering how popular incest is.
