Yesterday, there were 3 various comments requesting futa, as well as two emails in my inbox on the same topic. OKAY, OKAY, there you go, have some girls with dicks ! I can’t say I entirely enjoyed it, but this is drawn by Behind Moon, meaning this is some of the best there can be in the futa niche. |

If you've ever watched the TV car show from the UK called Top Gear, there is a special episode where they travel to Botswana in 2007. In the episode Hammond buys a little 1963 Opel Kadett – which he then names Oliver. The car surives the over 1000mi trip and is still on display at their studios.
During the Episode, Oliver gets submerged in a river, and Hammond yells out "OLIVER!" Almsot in a Kirk yells "KHAAAAN!" style voice. And it stuck. It's permenently in my brain.

Hey Oliver, i find that fiberupload ain't doing it's job. it keeps telling me captha is wrong when i actually typed it correctly. I'd suggest you mediafire. i download frequently from there. hope that works for you.
You know, depositfiles has the same problem most of the time. I can't explain why some people have it and some others don't :/

Seriously, I hate bitching like this. Trust me, I really do, but I'm not the only one having this problem.
Deposit isn't good either (25-27kB/s at best and getting stuck from time to time), though IIRC, you get bonuses from that. That's cool and I always try to use that one if I can, but please pick some other ALTERNATIVE hosts…
If you have something against mediafire, then there are ten thousands alternatives to it.

I don't know why depositfiles got sucky suddenly, it's a mystery to me. I can only hope they eventually get better again. I sent them a message to report my users were infuriating, and they told me they know of the problem and hope to have it fixed.
As for the other hosts, remember they don't suck for everybody, they have geo-thingy policies, and some people get better speeds (I think : those from countries with higher purchasing power, more likely to go premium). In my personal case, without premium, this morning, from DF I was doing around 130 kB/s, from Filevelocity around 80 kB/s, and from fiberupload around 280 kB/s.
I'm sorry, I'm not using mediafire for the moment, I picked these hosts also because they offer beer money, a small share of their earnings go to the uploader. Definitely not enough to make a living, but at least I get a compensation for the time I spend other than three people thinking of saying thanks per day, that can pay me either two pints or a gym session at the end of the week ^^ (why do I chose the beer T_T)

And the magic part is that as long as we don't get emo, the communication works better than when personally dealing with persons face to face, body language is more a hindrance than a help, emotions take control faster.
Now, as for the hosts, I feel your pain. Replacing filesonic and uploaded/wupload/filejungle with the new hosts is a major pain… even for me !
As I wrote in an earlier post, the shit should calm down eventually, and when the small fries see their business model work, they'll be able to invest more. Actually, every month a small fry of a file host doesn't shutdown, that means he successfully managed to invest more and more and MORE money into his system, it's kinda reassuring

Okay, so it's not ME everytime I try to download from DF?
THANK GOD! Cause yesterday, it took me 2 hours to download the latest goody from Oliver's website and the first time it timed out mysteriously (never had that happen before) and the second try was a little better–though the transfer speed was low again. (I swear: I think sometimes, these hosts HATE me for being a hentai fan or something.)
Anyway, I'm glad that I know WHY things have been slow lately. It's been driving me nuts. I have used Fiber Upload (or whatever it's called–sounds like Metamucil on speed-dial) a few times. The other one's a bit on the bitchy side and keeps telling me that the maximum load of free users has been 'maxed out' and suggests I go premium (when I win the fucking lottery!), or I get a nice love note from the site–telling me it can't find the file (or connect to the site) and suggests that I try again.
(This all in the past week.)
So anyhew…
Compared to these other ones, does filefactory work better for you guys ?

But for the moment, unless I cough up like 400$ monthly to allow free downloads for everyone on a 1 Gbps server, there is no affordable server capable of handling download requests from many people at a time (unless you wish to be served crappy speed as with free hosts).
Cheaper servers come with 100 Mbps (12.5 MB/s in total, usually more like 10 MB/s in the real world) that has to be shared with all the downloaders. At peak hours, that means that everybody will get super crappy speed.
So, with things as they are, if I am to make a “my own files host”, it’s annoying, this will be a “only for paying members” feature.
A “good speed for paying members” “lower speed for non-paying members” will mean that the free members, with their number, will hog all the available bandwidth, leaving no incentive to cover the server fees by becoming a paying member.
It would make more sense financially to have a “only for paying members” system, I don’t want to LOSE money, that would become a serious problem for me otherwise.
Fast calc : even with 40 paying members the server would be paid (40*5=200, if it’s a 200$ server with a 100 Mbps line). More members could mean a gigabyte server instead of a 100 Mbps one.
And, this time, I would be almost SURE I wouldn’t be losing lots of money.

Not allowing free downloads for everyone, keeping it for paying members, would it be bad to tbe bone ?
This would exclude lots of people from being able to download. But I really hate the idea I could launch the project with free downloads and have to close it a few months later because it’s making me LOSE my own money
And I’d still be offering my usual file hosts beside my own file host, so you wouldn’t be left in the dark : my own server would be a commodity for those who are ready to cough up a bit of money in exchange for the safer and faster file storage, that’s all.
How to say it… I wouldn’t feel guilty about it, also because… Hmmm….
I found how to express the idea :
– point 1 : In the long term, when all other file hosts see their links die because of a new megaupload shit, until I come back to fix the links or a helper comes to do it, at least there would be one last available link, even if it’s not avail for everyone,
– point 2 : and after all, a filestube/google/whatever search will offer other sources, so it’s back to being a commodity
– point 3 : that would discourage hate campaigns when someone reports lots of my links. I would only comply to REAL DMCA notices from REAL copyright holders, hu hu hu.

An example of calculations
IMPORTANT : this is based on rule of thumb figures, okay ^^
Trying to imagine a “free for all” server trying to serve 1 MB/s to everyone.
100 Mbps means 12.5 MB/s available bandwidth
This allows 12.5 simultaneous downloads at 1 MB/s, that’s 60 MB/minute
It’s the real world, no server really offers total speed, let’s say 12 simultaneous downloads.
Rule of thumb without the slightest evidence behind, okay : I imagine a zip’s size is in average 75 MB.
75 MB, at 1 MB/S, would take 75 seconds.
So each leecher requires less than two minutes to download most of his files, let’s be generous with time.
Can it be done to have 12 simultaneous leechers (cf above) simultaeneously, each of them during 2 minutes, during all the day ?
The day contains 60min x 24h = 1440 minutes in total.
The day offers 1440/2= 720 time slots in which to place 12 simultaneous leechers.
720 slots x 12 persons = 8640 times
Meaning the “free for all” server could afford to serve 8640 downloads per day in comfortable conditions.
Not totally comfortable actually, at peak hour, the number of simultaneous people would be 3 times higher, meaning around 300 kB/s per person, and I’m not sure the server will like the network and hard disk load.
Really not comfortable, peak hour is more like 4 times more people.
Add to this dickheads using download accelerators on several files at the same time.
Shit, it almost becomes as crappy as depositfiles since they fell below 100 kB/s.
And while 8640 may look BIG, if this is a free server that’s not fucking annoying like all free servers, I must expect much more traffic than I am usually asked : that number will NOT be enough, there WILL be more demand.
I always suspect depositfiles and the like lie about my file stats (and the for earnings, they have another category, “valid” downloads, haha, divide it by ten again, and then let them decide which of these belong to countries for which they’ll pay ^^), multiplying figures by 4 would be enough to mean the server will be brought to death in a day.
Aaaaaargh, math !
