A quick firefox question, please ? + Zip links for good dope
Hi there guys,
I’d like to ask, please, is there a way to leave firefox working as of usual, suggesting websites as soon as I type a few letters in the URL bar, fetching them from the bookmarks or from the browsing history…
… Except that a few specific domains would be manually excluded from ever being suggested, in order to maintain peace at home ?
– UPDATE : thanks a LOT to all the persons who replied, I’m grateful
It appeared the two required firefox extensions to do the job were HistoryBlock and NotAwesome. I renew my thanks

No relation : on request and because I luved them, I fixed the zip links in my Brandish shares
The whole cycle isn’t over, but so far 4 complete tanks are available :
Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3, and the Volume 4.
Salut Olivier,
no sure if this will help but just in case:
When the wrong address appears in the autocomplete, highlight it and hit
Shift + Delete key.
Ah, I didn't know of that one. Might be useful on the occasion, thanks
But I still search for a more "systematic" trick
i use foobar, you can edit what you see ont autofill options
The day I use foobar, I'll think of this, thanks Kadou
I think you only can change the setting from Privacy Tab in Options – location bar to History (only show history address) or Bookmark (bookmark address) or Nothing ~

Yeah, but I want firefox to keep on suggesting me stuff for the rest of the websites, see the problem.
Maybe the Firefox extension NotAwesome can help you.
This Notawesome extension looks like the thing I'll need !
I'll more than gladly give it a try, thank you El Chulo ! ^_^
Edit : however it only concerns bookmarks, will firefox still make suggestions based on web history, for something banned from being suggested from the bookmarks ? Ew, good question…
Hello,
About the Bookmarks, I use XMarks (addon).
It has the ability to create different bookmark profiles. I created 2 of them. One with all my bookmarks (including porn sites) and the other one excluding the porn sites.
Don't know a good way to solve the history problem. I simply disable the use of history/cache, etc.
Hope it helps =)
Didn't Xmarks close down ? O_o
just delete all history of visiting said domain.
Yep, and every time I visit I have to delete it again. That's why I want a more systematic solution.
You can clean out your location bar history either completely (by deleting all history) or one loction at a time with the delete key. See http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clearing%20Lo… for details. Once your problem history items have been cleared you can use the private browsing option (in the tools memu) to keep Firefox from putting the addresses back into your history.
If you like to have the best of both worlds I might suggest that you install the Mozilla SeaMonkey web browser for your private browsing. Many of the add-ons that are available in Firefox (I use Web of Trust & NoScript) are also available in SeaMonkey–that way you can rebuild your private history in the SeaMonkey browser that wouldn’t annoy your significant other using Firefox. You can have both browsers open at the same time to browse ‘safe’ and ‘unsafe’ sites together.
Yeah, but it's complicated, to switch in and out of porn more, you know :/

YES YES YEEEEESSSS !
Thank you Erghiez !
You can set the userChrome.css file
It’s location depends on your OS (create it if it does not exist):
Linux
~/.mozilla/firefox/[PROFILE]/crome/userChrome.css
WIN (not sure about this)
C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.tea\chrome\userChrome.css
You can set the address bar to not show certain elements,
e.g. my userChrome.css contains
/* hide bookmarks if url contains something … */
richlistitem[url*=”hentai”] {
display: none !important;
}
richlistitem[url*=”Hentai”] {
display: none !important;
}
richlistitem[url*=”eroge”] {
display: none !important;
}
/* hide bookmarks if title contains something …*/
richlistitem[title*=”Hentai”] {
display: none !important;
}
richlistitem[title*=”hentai”] {
display: none !important;
}
Hey, thank you very much, PantyScissors !
I'll use the two firefox extensions listed above, but I'll also preciously keep the explanation you gave, it might be quite useful too !
Just go into private browsing while porning it up.
Too complicated to switch all the time. And kind persons already gave the solutions
Possible solutions:
– different Windows/etc. Accounts for your wife(?)
– different browser for porn
– multiple firefox profiles http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-prof…
– use this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hi…
Options 1-3 are too complicated, option 4 was the real deal associated with NotAwesome
Pourquoi ne te crée tu pas un profil personnalisé:

First excuse my english since i'm brazilian, ok? Now let's start. Seems to me Oliver, that you want the best of both worlds, so to speak. I have some ideas but the best way in my view is to you to carry your own nasty version of Firefox on a usb stick that only you could have access – a portable installation of Firefox that is. You could turn off autocomplete every time that you finished use the browser but the others users could easily turn it on again, if they know how. You could also use the Private Browsing of Firefox when using the family computer but i think that's not exactily what you want, since the problem lies in the autocomplete showing your kinky Favorites and alike. Anyway, the safer way to me is 1) to backup all your bookmarks; 2) transfer that backup to a portable instalation of Firefox and 3) erase the shamefull bookmarks and history on the family computer. Best of luck.
The good thing with the internet is that most of the time it's okay to want the best of both worlds
