More seriously, look guys, I still prefer this like that. Being "simply" hacked on an important website means that we have to :
– curse heavens
– reinstall the OS
– curse the fucking hackers
– change all passwords to every account we have, hosting, registrar, emails, browsers
– reinstall from fresh a website CMS and its extensions (plugins, etc), all from the official install sites code, not from the backups
– restore an old backup that will have been cleaned, keeping only the database and the files that cannot be replaced with official versions (like the illustration pics). Scanning for base64 shit, running a batch recompression of a copy of the images to make sure all of them are real pics, etcetera.
– curse again the heavens, change again passwords just in case
It's a pain in the ass, but nothing against the other option
– give up, close it, let anobody steal it

If it's hacked, I don't see it coming back. He was about to pull out from being the admin anyway, so he obviously doesn't give a shit about the site anymore. It can also be assumed he isn't making money on the site (thus why he didn't care about giving the job to other people), so he wouldn't be losing (or gaining) any money by letting it expire.
