I have a theory about uncensored hentai and why it is so great. Would you know about Coleridge’s Willing Suspension Of Disbelief theory ? I sincerely believe it also works with hentai : we need to immerse ourselves in our manga to fully enjoy it; however, the presence of censorship bars breaks the charm and distanciates us again from the manga we are reading, strongly reducing the pleasure we receive from reading it.

i agree with you Oliver!! it sucks to see such a good art is ruined by some white or black cencorship bars!!
What you mention isn't really a suspension of disbelief – although I do agree with what you're saying and am willing to say that censorship ruins the suspension. Although the theory can be applied to hentai – particularly the idea that the reader is often willing to see the weird/bizarre/totally unreal stories as realistic (compare to professional wrestling lol) and therefore being able to connect to the eroticism. I don't know why I had to say that o_O
