that image links to the good stuff if you're in a hurry, but I feel that my wall of text is kinda legit, this time, check it out maybe ?

That’s been some big news in the hentai scene these last months, the biggest japanese hentai publisher Wani starting business with Fakku, in order to bring us their catalogue, in high resolution, fully uncensored, and fully translated.

I postponed talking about it for a long time until…

(1) We saw not only the bad in this :
– We, the hentai downloaders, are gradually quitting the comfortable grey zone and officially becoming pirates
– The biggest Japanese publisher will find even more reasons to go on renewed “witch hunts” against scanlators and pirates after finding a western partner to reach a new huge market. The latest witch hunt made many old scanlations damn hard to find, Wani’s “systemic” impact is huge already, it will will also discourage some scanlators from translating certain new titles and will lower the average quality level of scanlations

(2) We also saw the good in this !
– Awesome hentai in the best quality possible will be brought to us, either in printed paperback volumes, or in high res digital versions, based on the images before they were even censored
– Our dear Japanese artists will earn very well-deserved money, every new sold volume will mean additional money for them
– And, as side benefits… Hey guys, let’s be frank, if you still want to pirate stuff, nobody will ever manage to force you to pay if you don’t want, while you’ll sooner or later obtain greater quality stuff to pirate

And the reason I’m making this long post :
Renai Sample, by the godly Homunculus, a monument to amazing art and to vanilla hentai, the first volume born from the cooperation between Fakku and Wani, is soon going to be released !! :)

You can read more about it HERE, and if you preorder the book you’ll get interesting benefits :)

"Our dear Japanese artists will earn very well-deserved money, every new sold volume will mean additional money for them"
-Not really, Wani profits from it, Fakku profits from it, most of the artist likely don't even know anything about it. Unless it grows really big, the western market will just be a little niche thing next to the huge company that is Wani, and as far as I understand it it makes things easier for them to take legal action against offenders.

About the whole Jacob/Fakku thing, considering they still host tons of pirated content themselves (not to mention Jacob uploads it himself as "Anonymous"), the hipocrisy is so huge just I hope they crash and burn. If anything, I do wonder what the quality of their prints will be like, and if the uncensored art under the censoring is worth anything (which isn't a given).

It seems Jacob has to sit down with each artist to work out a deal with each before licensing something, and as nothing from ShindoL has been confirmed licensed, it would stand to reason ShindoL would know nothing about it. Now who's assuming things?

Also, it doesn't help that ShindoL has no Wani tankoubons and therefore cannot be licensed at all anyway. But that's neither here, nor there.

Replying to Anon's opening comment.

It's not really news, it's always the publisher who's getting the largest part of the proffit. I'm not telling it's good or bad, I only make this assesment, it's an universal state of things.

As for West sales being just a minuscule part of the sales : obviously. But it's always better than nothing. And it can't be used as a valid argument, otherwise no company would have reached new markets ever in history.

About the negative systemic effects, as in "adding oil to the fire" : yep. I wrote it in my description, these few lines I wrote are the result of an incredibly long time spent trying to find how the hell to make it short and "concatenate" several notions together in as little space as possible ^^
It sucks really hard, but we've reached a point where change is inevitable, deal with it.

Also, all attacks against Fakku, even despite the fully legit "adding oil to the fire" argument must take this into account : even if fakku hadn't signed a deal with them, Wani would still be out there sending notices and taking down sites.
It's not trading "no problem at all", with "Wani fucking everything up, Fakku publishing, oil added to the fire".
It's trading "Wani fucking everything up", with "Wani fucking everything up, Fakku publishing, oil added to the fire"… it's subtly different.
How vast is this "adding oil to the fire" will be the main question in the future.

How to say… I feel that it sucks a bit less : at least now there are real actual benefits.
Fans willing to go full fandom can go full fandom.
Artists can get a share, even a symbolic one.
And pirated versions of Fakku's books will be available sooner or later.

My sons are growing older, and now my hentai volumes collection is hidden inside a carton sealed shut by tons of rubber band on top of the highest shelf in my whole house. Sob, it's as if I didn't own them at all.
Digital FTW !

And, yeah, in the present case, you can get it digital or paper, or both.

Why hide it at all? Is Porn something that would corrupt the mind or something??? Instead of hiding it why not actively showing it to them if they have interest in it and "controlling" theyre discovery of it. That way you would be able to tell them that Porn is not something real, that Real Sex is completely different and something that requires at least some affection instead of its just "Lets fuck" "yeah".
I don't have a family yet, but that is a goal in my life I'd really like to achieve, haven't found the woman for it yet^^

On young children, visuals with strong impact would, exactly, have a strong impact. Worded explanations such as "this isn't reality" would have zero impact in comparison.

This is for the same reason we shelter them from contents that display too anguishing (errr… generating anguish.. can it be made into a verb ?) visuals, or that depict too strong or senseless violence.

This isn't hypocritically hiding the truth, this is simply allowing them to grow at a better pace, giving them the time to grow up well, at a non-traumatizing pace. ("Traumatizing" as in "leaving a permanently non-cleanable wound forgotten only to the conscious")

Nothing against you mate, but your reply, precisely, shows that you aren't a parent yet ;)

IN-teresting. Just for comparison, my H-Collection constitutes (to present date) 42.2 GB of PDF's made from files downloaded from here, Fakku & other sources. And it's backed up on re-writable DVD's (useful if and when a work becomes uncensored) as well as on a Raid Server, which has password-protected access (for when my nephew and nieces come visiting).

It does help to be employed in order to do that

I live in germany (practically next to oliver^^) and I paid for it, the book is already on my HDD in Jpeg format BUT censored and I don't know how you feel but it pisses me off that there is such wishy-washy bullshit going on, I mean:it's PORN, don't get fussy over it, there are JAVs which show far more then some hentais and its Real Life Sex not drawn. Who do they want to impress with that?!
I paid for it and I'm proud of it, I love Homunculus and as soon as "Hajirai Break" is available I'll buy it. I already made the suggestion to FAKKU to find a european retailer to reduce costs for shipping it here, but that will take a while just like the FAKKU-Wani Deal.
I'm ok with waiting, since there are scanlations in 6 european languages I'm sure that Erope will be a big market for Hentai and someone who doesn't want to pay for something they really love, don't deserve it IMO…

I'm glad I downloaded some of my favorites before they got taken down but there is a lot of content that is going to be harder to find from now on.

I hate seeing blatantly false comments. Not sure where you're getting your info from. I'm a scanlator that has been involved in all of this from the beginning. Wani sent takedown notices to us about 6 months before fakku books was announced, and there was a thread in the fakku uploader forum where Jacob said he was going to start talking to Wani about making a deal way back when we all first received the takedowns. Fakku was incredibly transparent the whole time to those of us actually involved in the community.

I'd much rather settle with "Jacob needed to work badly on his PR, as he said things that could be misunderstood many times, and enthusiam made him look judgemental"

About the judgmental part, I'm thinking of times when was telling there's no excuse for pirating anymore. Obviously he didn't mean pirates should stop pirating or they'd be gutted, but, well… Way to go, excellent way to become hated despite not meaning it. This part of the PR couldn't have been failed better, it's sad for him.

It's only 3 dollars for shipping in the US (I just checked). It's not Jacob's fault Europe costs so fucking much to ship to. It's possible that in the future there may be a distribution center directly in Europe that cuts the costs, but until then suck it up (if you really want it) or just get the digital version.

Also, they're also sold on Amazon where the shipping is likely cheaper. (But it won't include the digital copy for free.)

Well you have to consider the chain, What do they cost in Japan and then you have to add the translation printing and so on, I worked in the editorial departement of a big german publisher for a while, there is hell of a lot to add to the prices in between…but still the books 20$+shipping which was for me an additional 20$…

So much has been lost , because of a money grubbing ahole, everyone is happy because oh we can get uncensored translated books. Oh and with a good price. Ohh we are so happy. But you can't even see the amount that has been lost because of Jacob. Did anybody of you thought, how many books can FAKKU print/distribute? HMMM? There are laws that forbid some of them (lolicon, shotacon), there is the issue with time and money, What Fakku can do, is to release 3-4 books in 2-3 months. But sites had to erase over 1000's of books, magazines. Content that likely never gonna be surface again, because of some idiot.. I'm not a US citizen or Japanese, why should i comply with US laws? What do i care about you and your laws? Nothing good came from the US if it's involved with money. A global license? Don't make me laugh. Pirating is bad, but some of us can only use that method to get anything out of Japan.

Apparently, Jacob found a place to print at that has clear laws that allow shotacon and lolicon. Despite what people seem to think, it's not illegal in the United States, just some states have banned it.

I hate it when people who think they know anything about copyright laws try to make an argument that's flawed from the second they opened their mouth (…fingers? loltyping). The reason you have to "comply with US law" is because you live in a country (Hungary) that signed Berne (and other similar conventions). Like almost every other fucking country on Earth (there are only nine in the whole world, and those are "East Timor", "Eritrea", "Kiribati", "Marshall Islands", "Nauru","Palau", "San Marino", "Somalia" and "Turkmenistan"). You may want to brush up on copyright laws. Every copyright, no matter what country it originates from, is acknowledged in every part of the world assuming it's one of the places that signed the treaties. Which is why scanlators were forced to remove Wani stuff, because Wani (the copyright holder IN JAPAN, read "not the US") sent out notices to everyone.

Just an FYI to the above conventions I mentioned, the US actually held off on signing some of them until after other countries and we didn't make any of them. They were all made by the EU. So it's your shitty continent that caused all this.

Nothing wrong with Wani wanting to stop pirates. It's their business, after all. While I AM a pirate, I'm certainly not going to say that I object to the copyright owners trying to get their money back. However. Fakku….nah. The word sellout comes to mind. For a share in the profits, they will help Wani to clamp down on everyone else. Legal? Yes. Sellout? Yes. As to copyright laws…I think they'd have to be enforced by the country that you're staying in, Berne conventions notwithstanding. As I understand it those "shared laws" agreements mostly force the countries involved to enforce US laws on their own soil as well. Not that they're going to extradite or anything like that. So it'll be mostly lip service in third world countries, where piracy is practically all around you (Malaysia).

In any case, regarding the Hungarian guy above, he's actually right, you know. He doesn't have to obey US laws. He has to obey his own laws….which have adopted the US laws, thanks to said conventions. I think that is the case.

Actually, DMCA is based off WIPO, which started at a convention in Europe. Meaning Europeans started DMCA. Most US copyright laws were shaped by the conventions, and was why it took us some time to get in (since it required us to essentially rewrite our own laws to adhere to what Sweden wanted – especially Berne's). Sure, we probably contributed some ideas/Sweden copypasta'd our constitution, but so did countries in Europe (contribute ideas) >_>

DMCA is the name of the law we used when we implemented WIPO in our laws. It's basically the same thing, but sounds 9000 times cooler. It's technically only supposed to be used within the US, but it's become the "catch-all" term since it's more universally known / ignorant Americans are ignorant.

Porn being illegal is more of a freedom of rights issue than a copyright issue.

Wipo, lol, check the dates first. DMCA started in EU? In the Us part of the world in that time, there was no EU. If you didn't know when WIPO was started, Europe was divided with an ugly WALL, that if you crossed you would be killed on sight. And Hungary wasn't part of the US side. We were on the other side locked up. So no thank you.

What is WIPO?

WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information and cooperation. We are a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 187 member states.

Our mission is to lead the development of a balanced and effective international intellectual property (IP) system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all. Our mandate, governing bodies and procedures are set out in the WIPO Convention, which established WIPO in 1967.

Is anyone really suprised? I mean, companies had been against this for years now, I am honestly suprised manga and anime have lasted this long for free. Piracy is considered such a problem, that the Americans switched it from the FBI and gave it to the Department of Homeland security, who has made the claim is is terrorism against economies. Some of us may end up in GITMO, the only reason anime and manga piracy was not attacked in heavy force yet is because the US did not care. Now stricter measures are coming(Lots of anime sites being shut down).

I am not mad either, I get companies want paid, I simply can't pay the costs, especially the costs that will be in my nation. I will just have to move on and find something new. I am also not technologically advanced enough to do the deep web stuff, like IRRC(Tried it three times, so confused, ended up banned), so I will just give anime/manga up.

Can I ask you Oliver, will you shut this site down if/when you get notices from the publishers?

I once tried to browse for illegal stuff on onion sites and I was super disappointed, I couldn't manage – blaming me, nobody else – to find anything funny and the slowness was killing.

It's possible the deep web is overrated.

By definition, anything not grabbed by search engines is deep web. IRRC links are in this catagory

IRC isn’t WWW content tho. It’s a chat protocol.

Also, why do you keep spelling it with two R’s?

After saw Homunculus's book uncensered ( no black bars anymore) I really want Fakku to be partner with Megastore too. I mean Megastore doesn't release tankoubon with censoredship that I can tolerant anymore. if Megastore be partner with Fakku then I also have a chance to get their uncensored tankoubon. I really mad when they release Tsukino Jougi's tankoubon with white out censored.

Happily waiting for my book to be delivered, even with the stupid high shipping costs to EU. Sure, it was pricey, but it sure as hell is worth it. I won't mind reading it again, uncensored :D.

There's probably not a person here that hasn't witnessed, through this media, the most monocle dropping, wondrous and experimental sex acts imaginable. Depraved emperors of the past have nothing on the delectable experience each of our minds now contain.

But if piracy wasn't so easy and paying for good (world wide) language translations was, it might keep masters like Udono-Ya, Oda Non and Izayoi Seishin in this scene, among many others I admire a little less. Cheap, high consumption downloads at low res, and high res or colour for a bit more.

It doesn't alter that fact that without places this site I wouldn't even have known they existed, but just because we've had it free doesn't mean it should be free.
Does anyone else remember their first 56kps modem? *clouds parting, and lights from heaven*
We've all had a good run.

AOL cost me $30 a month. It wasn't free, either.

Not to mention that loading would fail halfway and the bottom part of the image would be pixels soup.

Whatever else can be said about Wani and the deal with Fakku, the implications and all the pirating/anti-piracy, Homunculus was the best possible choice. Good job to them, and Homunculus for being the Supreme Overlord of vanilla.

I wish they would throw physical freebies for all who purchase instead of possibility of winning freebies for some customers.
Something simple like postcard like they did at ComicZin would be nice though. It would be interesting to put US edition next to original…

I'll sum up the problem with what I saw in a documentary on piracy. Digital pirates give the customer what they want; the right price with the right media.

All the media companies be it movies, music, sports, and porn can't seem to or don't want to figure this out. They suffer from the same madness that American car companies suffered from back in the 70's and 80's.

They basically told the customer, "don't tell us what you want, we'll tell you what you want." When a business tells the customer instead of listening to the customer, it's going to be a long painful decline.

"Digital pirates give the customer what they want; the right price with the right media. "

This argument is flawed. The problem with this is that pirates don't give it at the right price, they give it away for free. The content creators still need to make money so they can continue creating content.

The argument is partially flawed (keep in mind the price part is sarcasm), the main point was that content creators have a bad habit of not listening to customer demand.

For example, I saw a book on here called Empowered. Took a look at the first few chapters and wanted to buy from the creators. I wanted it on a cbr, cbz, pdf, or any decent ebook format, and I wanted the entire collection in a bulk priced bundle.

The content creator only sold it in separate packages and at about $50 a package. I think the entire package was $100+. Keep in mind this is for digital media which doesn't have the publisher, paper, and distribution costs as paperback. If I got a used copy of these books on Amazon the cost was significantly lower, but I have a hard time reading paperback due to my eyesight, so I prefer digital.

I sent an email to the content creator politely inquiring if I could buy a digital anthology type version of the comic and received a snarky response in the form of, "take it or leave it."

I get this attitude, while the CC fails to realize the books in question can be snatched from a pirated source in the format I want and for free. That's what I was mainly trying to point out.

Fakku was hit with the same take down notices. They thought they were screwed and more take down notices would come and end the website.

They asked if they could publish their work in English. They agreed. They were overjoyed and excited to be able to bring the original artwork uncensored to readers outside Japan.

The artists get a cut of every sale. The products are DRM free. They're reasonably priced and you even get the digital copie free if you buy the physical release. The first thing all the leeches do is complain that they can no longer be a parasite and get everything for free. I want to live in your fantasy world where all you do is take and take and never give back like the selfish individuals you are.

I'm going to support them not because I'm holier than though, but because I actually want to support uncensored hentai, and this deal let's us do it. Everyone else can only think of pathetic excuses to fuel their reasoning for being cheap.

Fakku is three people. They're still keeping non-Wani scanlations up. They're releasing DRM free copies of the original artwork fully uncensored. Something we'd never get without them. They aren't a large corporation and they don't have a jew CEO getting a 50 million dollar bonus.

Go get a job, stop being terrible with money, and support something if you like it.

Funny that one of the longest replies is also one of the less intelligent ones, in which the author has visibly not taken time to read the discussions above, either stating the obvious or attacking those who needn't be attacked. Oh, sure, lots of testosterone, look at this aggressiveness, that's how a shining knight in white armor must talk…

Either make your reply targetted at some precise persons, with quotations if needed, or sound like a dick, Sad Puppy, sorry to tell you, here your actions are having the effect of someone coming to troll, even though I am certain that wasn't your purpose :/
