In reaction, about ShindoL and TSF Monogatari

I have received partly negative feedback, in comments and email, also from persons I respect like Mederic64, regarding the share I made yesterday, TSF Monogatari. It’s true I wasn’t particularly tender towards the mangaka, to quote myself, in addition to all the times I compared the manga to a huge pile of shit:

I wonder, was that excessive? I would have been an hypocrite if I pretended to remain even partly neutral to this manga that horrified beyond words – well, that’s my defence. Respect doesn’t equal servility.
But I’ll do better than split hair about respectfully telling fuck you. I’ll give you the link to Metamorphosis, the newest manga by ShindoL, that you can find on Fakku, HERE.
You see, in my opinion, Metamorphosis is way better.
– Graphically, the art is amazing, reaching new heights of perfectly controlled excess
– Artistically, this is not just despicable shitty porn (like TSF Monogatari, in my biased opinion), there is a true story, touching us to the deepest core of our soul. HUGE WARNING: you will be left despaired, sad, empty, you’ll need many days to recover once you’re done reading. Calling the ending “sad” or “depressing” doesn’t even come close. But that’s how true art works, we’re touched, we’re moved, it doesn’t have to be all cute smiles. The paintings by Goya, or – a contemporary local reference, sorry only few will be able to access it ^^ – the Chair d’âmes by Nedjar, they’re harrowing, beautiful, and artistic.
Metamorphosis goes way further than the shit we see in TSF Monogatari. But, unlike TSF Monogatari, this is truly artistic and totally worth it.
Well I haven’t read TSF Monogatari and I don’t think I will after what I read everywhere about it. I read however Metamorphosis (Before FAKKU released it, as scanlations) And just as Oliver says, I found it horrible as a story (content) but the art was so damn good i couln’t help get aroused severy times, even though this is completely outside my niche.

Heh, I think you’re just overexaggerating. Needing many days to recover the reading of a hentai manga? Please. Of course, you can say you don’t like it, that it made you feel bad, but hey apples and oranges, right?
Personnally, in terms of erotic drawings, ShindoL is one of the best. I’m surely biased because he drew the first eromangas I read, and also because he did some art for an erotic game I like very much. But I think his balls should be recognized when he writes that shit, because I hardly see this much extreme hentai from a very talented mangaka.
Just my 2 cents.

As for overexxagerating, I shit you not, that had that effect on me. That final chapter, in which the girl is dreaming of a good life with her child, and in fact she’s dying like a dog at the end of her despicable ruined life… I was left grim, somber and depressed for many days. Sure, I can play it like all is cool on the outside, but on the inside I had this non-stop feeling there was a source of darkness that didn’t stop pouring filth that I had to push back.
Sorry, I may be too sensible, but that really had that impression on me.
It still felt artistic and beautiful, though. While TSF Monogatari, if it gave me the impression I had a source of something deep inside that lasted for a while, it was just a sewer puking back shit and piss.
well, in my book ShindoL is “a great artist that draws rubbish”, and i keep downloading his stiff cause he’s a great artist.
he is not the only “great artist that draws rubbish”, just look a Kakugari Kyoudai (Niku Ringo) or all those good mangakas that fills magazines like Angel Club with all those ugly netorare that seems copies of each others.
i see their works as something for adults in the whole, not just sex, but violence and other stuff like in any not-for-children movie that goes in cinemas, there is also this, you can like it or not, and ShindoL is one of the best (or one of the less worse you would say, maybe).
you can take Emergence as a better example than TSF (which may be considered not his best work, oh, and i haven’t read Metarmophosis yet), as a story it has significance, bethrayal, ijime, social denunciation, corruption, bad pearents, etc, it’s a road to hell for a naive and pure girl getting overwelmed by the dirt of the society; it’s a deep and strong manga, apart from being fap material, cause, you know, S. is a great artist.
i also don’t like netorare, mindbreak, violence, scat, gore and those extreme things, we all know you don’t like them too, and the more is close to happy vanilla sex is better, so i was not surprised to read you being mad and cursing ShindoL, hah; but i didn’t expect you to have complains about that so much that you wrote this post.

Some of the work of Shindol are absolutely amazing , they question your perception of reality and normality , cf the one about Cows , and fuck you up emotionally . Yet most of his work are just a pit of despair inducing nightmare , and most of those are not even deep it’s just about putting “innocent /naive ” people through the worst of the worst and then some.
It’s like there is two extreme and beside that almost nothing , either you are a sickly sweet vanilla or a disturbing pile of the worst of humanity . Let alone the fact that if you are even remotely on the good side of thing , or just not the worst of the worst you are going to be the victim of it all .
The beginning of what you wrote is something that also struck me, yeah.
Look at some works ShindoL made, the one with an amputee, or the girl in a wheelchair. That was so beautiful, so, moving!
It’s also one of the reasons I resent so much the shit the mangaka makes, this shows me how much potential for pristine beauty is wasted with each new gutter-grade crap release.
Personally I agree with you, Shindol can go fuck himself in regard of his shitty stories, his art style in the other had is pretty good…but it pales when used in their shit context

Fakku went legit, you have to pay for everything now. The books have to be purchased individually, the rest of the manga is on a “subscription” based model.

The pros: well, lots of stuff, uncensored and HQ, both tanks, original creators, and monthly magazines.
The cons: can’t download magazine subscriptions to disk (bless pirate torrents *cough*) and every online reading has to be done through the browser (something that totally forbids masturbation IMO, but maybe I disgress)

I don’t like most vanilla stuff out there and yet I never went on your boards and called anyone a “vanilla fag” or w/e. While not remotely a fan or either TSF Monogatari or Metamorphosis (aka Emergence), I’m amazed at what he can do. Barrier Free & Hitori Nabe × Futari Nabe aka Single Nabe x Double Nabe almost seems like a completely different author when you look at the content. Both of those are far superior to just about anything he has done since IMHO.

I’ve noticed you, Oliver, getting more and more condemning of the content you share. I’m glad that you finally realized you’re alienating the guys who enjoy the content you share. As the leader of this hentai community of yours, I think it’s in poor taste to shit-talk kinks and turn-ons that you don’t like. Porn is a safe-space for us to gratify our deepest, darkest sexual desires. This is especially true for hentai, where taboo can be touched on without actually harming people.
It’s understandable that you do not to like the kinks that turn others on. Heck, my dick instantly deflates at even the best-drawn gay and guro content. But at least don’t bash the stuff that others love to fap to. To each his own, especially when no harm is being done.
I’m surprised that people were upset with your comments on TSF, but maybe that’s because I’ve been around here for quite a bit. Even if you raise hell on something you don’t like, you don’t block others out who may disagree with you, and you’ll still share something you hate because you know others will like it. Trust me, I’m one of those people who HATES NTR and themes close to that with a passion (I’m a hopeless romantic type, I guess), but as much as I bitch and complain about a certain work or artist, I know there’s still others who will enjoy it all the same.
I guess my point is this: Keep on keeping on, dude. I don’t want you to hold back your thoughts on things because of this. Hell, your wall o’ rants are sometimes what I need for the day, and I more than likely nod my head in agreement of what you’re saying.
And in this case……If ShindoL tried doing something like Metamorphosis, but worked on making it more vanilla like some of his works, I’d know what my material would be (I’m not a fan of soul-crushing tragedy either, go figure).
Ignore the salt-throwers. TSF Monogatari appeals to the majority of the hentai fandom, Henshin on the other hand is one of those rare gems that you find once every blue moon. I didn’t mind the silliness of TSF Monogatari, as it does have a happy ending after all, and other genderflip works made me kinda indifferent to that stuff, but if we talk about quality and plot, Henshin wins hands down.
…now I just have to find the guts to pick it up again and reread it.

Hmm. For my own sake, I think TSF Monogatari is the better one. The reason being that TSF has a ridiculous premise from start to finish. I mean, it starts with a guy being changed into a girl due to some experimental drug, and ends with them marrying and living with a girl who got herself turned into a futanari with a dick as big as her forearm. Nothing in the book can be taken seriously.
Metamorphosis may be some sort of “art”, but the fact that it’s something that could *really happen* makes it WAY more disturbing and fucked up.

I liked Metamorphosis so much that I bought the book. Two copies. (in fact I’m expecting/hoping to get the entire Fakku collection up to Non Virgin delivered to me soon.)
I’m not even remotely sorry for liking depressing stories. For the same reason I like anime like Your Lie in April or even School Live. The contrast between the cuteness of the characters and the cold reality of the story is something that sticks to me. It keeps me busy for days, or for the rest of my days possibly. This is also the main reason why hentai is such an amazing medium to me. Art, even.
I literally bawled my eyes out reading Metamorphosis. That’s a GOOD thing! This indicates that I’m not a danger to society for one, and that I appreciate hentai for its story-telling rather than gratituous easy-going fap material.
Oliver: I love your site and your commentaries, for the entire reason I just summed up. You warn your readers, but post the share regardless of your tastes. And even though you went overboard a bit, after reading this follow up, I like you even more.

Personally, if it’s outside of my tastes but it’s got a truly human touch, something more than industrial, something aesthetic, I can like it to some extent, or enjoy detesting if – if the phrasing even makes some sense. Though, I won’t follow Fakku if they go guro or vore.
