The female heroine in that share has a charming but totally fake personality. In public, she’s a little miss perfect in all regards, hiding that everyone’s looks of admiration are like oxygen for her. It’s only with her (male, of course) childhood friend that she’s her true, natural self: childish, full of weird ideas, honest. How’s that, for a typical but “efficient” vanilla setup? ^^

Yeah, Karen is a not-really-rare Japanese name which seems to have originated completely independently of the Western name, and is pronounced a bit differently – much more press on the “e” than in English, roughly kah-renn. Hmm, … another time, place and artist/author, this could have gotten downright ugly if Karen only went after Soutarou to get on what she considered an equal footing with her “rival”.
