I’ve had a series idea that would deserve to be written
Hey guys.
I’m sharing with you that idea I got while randomly talking with my sons, simply because I honestly think it’s a good one, and it would deserve to become a thing. I’m not claiming any dibs at all, simply, by sharing it, I’m giving a bit more “reality” to the concept, who knows, maybe one day, by word of mouth, etc, the idea will come to life, one can always dream ^^
With my teenage sons, we were talking about how weird the isekai genre is, I recall now, it started with one of them who heard of the “Reborn as a vending machine” WTF one (I shit you not, it exists), and then, I thought of something that, trusting google, hadn’t been done yet.
A variant on the isekai genre, reborn in another world, theme.
Hear me out.
We’re in the XXIst century. An old priest reaches the end of his life. He spent his entire life as a devout catholic, let’s say in the last part of his life he worked with Vatican officials to tackle ways to fight sect indoctrination, to avoid losing believers to scammers.
Time to kick the bucket.
But instead of waking up at the Pearly Gates, the priest finds himself reborn, with all his memories, as an infant in some weird unknown land. He learns the language easily, his brain automatically gives him equivalences between aramaic and his former life’s words, and by his first year, he’s already attracting lots of attention, looking wise and unique.
However, he has his own worries. He quickly learns his father is called Joseph, his mother Mary, and, what joke is this o Lord, they live in Bethlehem.
Screw it, he’s Jesus.
And thus begins his new story. The life of Jesus defined his entire former life, and the life of billions of believers. Even with the wrongs committed in His name, our former priest has made his decision: he will reenact the life of Jesus, step by step, including the dramatic conclusion.
Cheating will be necessary: he is just a man, without actual superpowers. You can only walk on water if you spotted where a sand bank has been formed overnight, you can’t spend 40 days in a desert without hiding provisions first where nobody will find them, etc. You’d need years to train enough in sleigh of hands to convincingly multiply bread loaves or transform water into wine.
And we can imagine a dramatic final arc, in which Jesus has to convince his best friend, a man with a heart of gold, to accept to betray him and sell him out to the Romans. Poor Judas, will he accept Jesus’ arguments?
…
So, yeah, that was it. I recognize this sounds stupid, laid out like that, but I really think the idea’s got potential, in the hands of someone skilled ^^
That doesn’t sound stupid, at all. I’d read it. I’d lobby for it. Especially if the Apocrypha are included. He’d need to be a serious, i.e. academic, Jesus scholar the for parts of his life which aren’t commonly known by the laity and to put things in context for them when debunking scammers & etc. He probably would have studied the Apocrypha for that.
Of course the series would generate brigades of screaming ragers…
I imagined him in the “understanding how sects work” because that’d be a necessary skill for him, but making him a scholar of apocrypha would also be necessary, right…
> Of course the series would generate brigades of screaming ragers…
Even better lol
It’s interesting and plots like this is why I read fiction from websites like Royal Road.
If you want to try something mildly similar, I suggest https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamb:_The_Gospel_According_to_Biff,_Christ%27s_Childhood_Pal
I was hoping my submission would allow to find more stories with a similar inspiration, I am not disappointed.
The Biff one wouldn’t really be something I’d enjoy reading, but, eh, it’s good it was writtten =)
Not so stupid, it’s pretty close to the plot of Behold The Man, a novel by Michael Moorcock
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behold_the_Man_(novel)
Now, that’s the thing I didn’t see coming. I imagined my submission would allow to find that more people had a similar idea, but such as that one, it’s sweet, I didn’t picture that point of view and way of treating it. Nice.
And yet… the idea is so rich in potential, and there are so few attempts of, ahem, milking it. It deserves more!!
It doesn’t sound bad, except “Cheating will be necessary: he is just a man”. Under the isekai premises, the gods pity of you, makes you rebirth in a new world WITH superpowers, or MAGIC, as you can name it. You coud transmute elements, create a magic bag, … or fulminate a land. All depends of you, how you uses your powers, for good or bad. And of course, better if it is full of comic situations
I will politely disagree with you: it is generally considered an historical truth that the man Jesus existed, there are far too many sources telling it.
However, was he a person gifted with magical powers?
Even roman catholic scholars have been known to allow the possibility of a doubt.
Hearsay, over amplification after too much mouth to ear, and fruitful imagination from followers, that is enough to create a magical legend from the acts and deeds of a man, just a man, nothing more than a man.
That’s what I have in mind here. Our priest being aware that the legend will be written for him, he just has to plant the right seeds.
Those seeds can be mental manipulation (tell people you only meet once and won’t meet again that you did that badass thing just last week, or deny vehemently that you performed a magical thing in front of someone who was alraedy doubting you: now he’ll be inclined to believe, etc), or meticulous preparation, or sleigh of hand. Or, even, knowledge of modern medicine, some situations can be fixed when you understand what is wrong, even without modern drugs, just gotta choose which sick people you pretend to cure and lay some groundwork.
After all, the priest KNOWS Jesus was probably just a man, it’s not something forbidden by the faith. And he KNOWS the legend was born because Jesus was the embodiment of what a good man could be, and after his life, the inescapable way humans function made those magical legends arise.
Kinda hard to heal the blind from birth, lepers, raise the dead. recognition by John the Baptist, transfiguration, just for starters. Plus, Judas betrayed Christ on his own, calming the sea, driving out demons. plus, that whole Resurrection issue, the Ascension, the angels at the tomb, Pentecost, and then the conversion of Saul/Paul as the final apostle.
Your scenario requires a deity-level power to start with, and there’s simply no way to replicate the miracles Jesus performed, including granting abilities to his apostles. Consider that the gospels would be written between 66-110 AD. There’s no way for your protagonist to ensure so many things.
Unless…
He was also gifted with the necessary powers. Since your character’s very existence requires deity-level power, why should it stop there?
I addressed that point in a former response, I’m copy-pasting it if you don’t mind:

Considering the nonsense they sometimes do with isekai, this idea of yours sounds very interesting. I for one if I read such a synopsis in an anime I would want to watch it.
Hello
Seems like a brilliant, interesting, out of the box idea to me (Or maybe other ppl already thought of it but too afraid to explore the potential due to religion aspect?)
This plot has potential and worth expanding to test how far it can go.
Just a comment from long time lowkey follower of the page, for over a decades I think.
Not a regular hentai enjoyer now but sure will comeback every few months to check for news and good quality materials
Ok this would either be amazing or a complete dumpster fire that than spreads to take out the entire block, no in between. It would be fun to watch either way though.
also i find it a little weird that that I checked a porn blog to find this here. I will never be able to tell anyone about this idea who might be anywhere interested. lol
The final arc will be awesome. Because the truth will be revealed to the the friend, like the t-800 to Sara Connor. In the revelation, mozarts requiem be playin.
